Keran Family,

Only smiles when I think of your family! Way back when I first met Patty, when a buddy and I tried so hard to take on Dan, my lesson was if you can't beat'em... join'em. The good times with you all, memories that last forever. I lost my Dad to cancer 6 years ago and the one thing I remember that got me through that tough time was a close friend of mine lost his Dad when we were kids. I thought of his family and realized how lucky we were to have Dad with us for almost 30 years longer than my friend has his Dad.

I hope this helps to get you through this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My uncle Dick was a lot of fun. I went to the track one time with Uncle Dick and my Dad when I was about 19. I didn't know what I was doing but I placed a pick 6 ticket with some favorite numbers. Later in the day, I pulled out the ticket and discovered that I had matched 4/6 horses with 2 races left. Dick didn't believe me but then matched up the ticket to the results. He was so excited but was trying to be restrained (like what you do if you find the medallion at the winter carnival). He was saying "Bobby, she really has it and she already hit her long shots, she may win this thing". He looked like he was going to hyperventilate.

Then he gently and calmly turned to me and said "honey, why don't you and your sister give your Dad and I your ticket for safekeeping and you can go down to the track and yell your head off if you win"

In the next couple of minutes, he went on to tell me that if I won I could buy a car, and take a limo home, and all kinds of fun stuff. I was so pumped.

Well, we went on to win 5/6 and still took home some money. But I have to say that those were the most exciting 15 minutes of my life because of how excited Dick was for me. He was a fun guy that loved the thrill of the race.

I can't help but think that he's looking down on all of us right now and he's placing odds on how we are all acting. "Hey bud, I've got a 3:1 that says if Lenny cries, Bridget and Andrea are going down too" or "2:1 says that one of the grandkids will drop the kneeler during the service"

Well Uncle Dick, good luck on your bets, you will be missed. I hope you are smiling down on all of us.
