Richard LEVASSEUR Obituary

December 1, 1942-March 9, 2022 US Army retired Lt. Colonel Richard "Dick" LeVasseur of St. Louis Park (previously from Dixon Lake in Squaw Lake) passed away on March 9, 2022 at the age 79 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's for 13 years. His loss was unexpected for the family & friends. Richard had immense passion for life with many interests and accomplishments: he ran marathons, was an enthusiastic gardener, talented cabinet maker, avid golfer, fisherman, duck & goose hunter, loved classical music and attended MN Orchestra concerts, was the president of the Dixon Lake Association for 24 years working with the MN DNR & US Forest Service to improve Dixon Lake and its fishery, loved to organize father/son annual fishing trip and enjoyed going to Canada with his good friend Lyle for duck and goose hunting every fall, staying with their hosts Harold and Mary. Harold introduced them to many of his friends for hunting privileges. Dick and Lyle hosted a fish fry dinner for all of them, which then turned into a very big party. Richard will be deeply missed by his wife, Joan, of 58 years; son, Michael (Megan) LeVasseur; grandchildren, Estelle, Drew, Chloe and Isabel Killmer; brothers-in-law, Dean Hunter, Jim (Katie) Petrasek; nieces Lori Porter, Kim Brant, Kirsi (John) Dahl, Jeni (John) Wallraff and Jami (Steve) Flaten. The memorial service is at 12:45pm on Thursday, April 21 at Ft. Snelling Cemetery, 7601 34th Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota (Please enter at Funeral Cortege entry gate at 12:30pm for procession to a committal shelter). There will be a Celebration of Life Luncheon after the service at Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Dick was a great conservationist. He knew how to wrangle the bio-political world as well as the natural one of the greater Dixon Lake area. He also knew how to dark house spear, sometimes needing two spears to get those big northern pike on the Third River flowage. He will be missed.

There never are good words to express the sadness we feel when someone we love passes. Yet, an amazing life full of favorite activities, adventures and people who love you (and will miss you) is something to be grateful for.

I hope to see Auntie Joan and cousin Mike soon to share some hugs and memories and probably a few tears.
