Joanie and family,
We are deeply saddened to learn of Dicks passing. He was a very good friend and will be sorely missed.
I was starting college and didnt know a soul in St. Paul when our family moved to St Marks parish from Sleepy Eye. Fortunately, it didnt take long before I was befriended by a high schooler who spent a lot of time at St Marks gym. Dick and I went on to spend years together coaching and refereeing youth sports, going to sporting events, playing ABA basketball and golfing every Saturday morning. We even taught phys ed one year.
Dick had plenty of stories to tell, exaggerated for sure, but thats what made them so special. He was superb working with kids and had a caring heart. Ill never forget his kind care for Coach Meyer during his later years. Dick especially loved talking of his sons and their families. They were top of mind. Despite my multiple career moves out of state, Dick kept in touch, always alerting me to remembrances, wakes and the like. Sadly, that last call never came.
Please accept our sincere condolences. May Dick rest in peace and may God bless and comfort you and your family during this time of grief.

Joanie & family -
Dick was indeed one of a kind. His conversational enthusiasm and knack for staying up to the moment on all the local sports and St Mark's and Cretin alumnae scenes was remarkable. Many memories from years of ABA Tournaments and poker parties too. Unable to make the memorial service ... I'm certain I missed many other good stories. RIP Dick.

Mr. Powers was always kind, friendly and offered a smile to me at Highland Little League many years ago. My heart felt condolences to the Powers family and friends.

Very sorry to see this. Another of the old time St. Mark's crew. Dick was one of the biggest sports enthusiast around. Very well connected. Always had the latest scoop. I always enjoyed talking to him. He will be missed. RIP my friend.
