Dick Wakefield had a great influence on my life. He was my fourth grade teacher and his example inspired me to become a teacher. I often stayed after school in both fourth and fifth grade to help him. I lived a couple of miles north of North Heights Elementary and he would drop me off on his way home. When I was a senior at Kellogg HS, I was ahead in credits so I was lucky enough to volunteer in a special class/program he was teaching at Central Park. The summer I graduated from college, he hired me to teach summer school, which I taught for several years. When I graduated, public schools were laying teachers off in droves. I believe it was his glowing recommendation that eventually landed me a job in St Paul Schools from which I retired. He provided me a shining example to follow and helped me along the way to attain my goals. His love and concern for his students did not end at the end of the day or even the end of the year. I will always be thankful I had the good fortune to have Mr. Wakefield as my fourth grade teacher.
I offer my condolences to his family. May your warm memories together help you through this difficult time and help keep him alive in your hearts.

It was always an honor to assist Dick with his creative endeavors like cardboard carpentry and many other activities in the classroom. The education profession is no longer producing the likes of Dick Wakefield.

As a teacher in the Roseville Schools, I have fond memories of Dick. He gave his all to his students and fellow teachers.

What a wonderful teacher & administrator he was. He was my 4th grade teacher & me & my family were very close to him. I believe the last time I visited with him was when I graduated from college in 1975. He will always hold a special place in my heart. He was a great family man. Everytime we drive out to White Bear Lake I look for his home and think of the great memories as my family visited him several times.
