Richard Wilhoit Obituary

Of Ft. Myers and Sanibel, FL and Hopkins, MN Died April 8, 2010 in Ft. Myers after a short illness. He was born 96 years ago to Albert D. and Elizabeth E. Wilhoit and was raised in St. Anthony Park neighborhood of St. Paul. He graduated from Shattuck School, Faribault, MN and attended the Univ. of MN. His wife, Peg, of 72 years, survives him. Together they lived in the same home in Edina for 64 years where they raised their family. He is also survived by children, Richard (Lucy), Anne (Morris Baskett) Welsh, John, Katherine (Thomas) McGrane and Christine (Dennis) Taylor, grandchildren Peter (Michelle), Andy (Katie), Chris (Kelly) and Paul (Tonya) Wilhoit, Melissa (John) McCaffrey, John (Shana) Welsh, Althaea (Michel) Lacasse, Anna (Aaron) Holicky, Emily (Michael) Moloughney, and Heidi Taylor and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Terry and grandson, Eric Wilhoit, and brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Helen Wilhoit. He spent his working career at A.D. Wilhoit Laboratories, a feed and grain analysis business started by his father in 1922, which he continued after his father's death in 1959. Dick was an active and enthusiastic volunteer in his sons' Scouting ventures, the Optimist Club of Hopkins and the Northwest Region, and the Lions Club and St. Isabel's Catholic Church, Sanibel, FL. His life long passion for the great game of golf, including his six holes-in-one achieved after age 60, will long be remembered. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11a.m., Saturday, April 17, preceded by a visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 6 Interlachen Rd., Hopkins. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Shattuck-St. Mary's School, P.O.
