Robert Sorenson Obituary

Sorenson, Robert (Bob) The son of Darrell and Lee Sorenson, was born on October 29, 1958 in Denver, Colorado. The Sorenson family relocated to Stillwater, Minnesota in the early 1960's where six children were raised and many wonderful childhood memories were made. Bob never tired of reliving and reminiscing about the good 'ole times on 3rd Street. In 1977 Bob graduated from Stillwater high school and after several years he decided to make Hawaii his home while fulfilling a yearning for travel, new experiences, and warmer weather. It is there that he met Tammy Oshiro, who he married in the Spring of 1986. In the early 1980's Bob returned to Minnesota with Tammy to be closer to family and friends. Those were special years filled with time together that are cherished by many. The pull of the ocean and warm weather were too great, and after almost eight years, Bob and Tammy returned to Hawaii where they continued to reside. While in Hawaii, Bob was able to accomplish what he was always most proud of, he and Tammy became foster parents. It was something Bob poured his heart and soul into with gifts of great love and understanding. He truly made a difference in the lives of many children. Bob is survived by his wife Tammy; Foster children Warren Pitts, Maezie, Sarah and Johnathan Riofta; father Darrell; brother John (Ann); sisters Nancy (Tom), Mary (Tom), Barb (Jon), and Pam (Jim); father and mother-in-law Yashuo and Nancy Oshiro; sister-in-law Donna Oshiro and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lee. Bob Sorenson died peacefully in his home in Hawaii on February 26, 2006. He will be greatly missed by the many family and friends whose lives he touched. Services will be held in Hawaii on Saturday March 4th. All arrangements are being handled with Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary in Kaneohe, HI. A additional memorial will be held in Stillwater later this summer.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Sorenson family. My heart goes out to you all.

After hearing the news, memories came flooding in and continue to do so. What a unique and special individual. My memories of Bob - “Eddie”…there are so many. The Bob Sorenson in my heart: handsome, fun, a risk taker, mischievous, stubborn, a leader, an athlete, angel on skis, a skilled camper, a good friend, a good talker, a good listener, a defender, caring, passionate in his beliefs, big hearted, deep thinker, a rebel, a restless spirit, lover of “The Who” - Roger Daltry, fist in the air, a human being, my friend.

You let me know about “Free Bird” Bob. That was important to you and important for me to know. You’ll never know how much that helped me then and does to this day. Thank you for that. Heartwarming long conversations about life, love and dreams. We shared many good times as well as some very difficult times. Countless memories. The days of “Eddie, Al & Doc” will live forever in my heart. They say there’s a rock & roll band in heaven. I’m sure you’ve already found it. I feel blessed to have known you Bob. Until we meet again.

I remember Bob as a guy with a great dispositon as well as someone who always seemed to get along with eveybody. Fun and easy going. A good guy. And although I have to admit, I've lost track of many people who we all use to hang out with, it's always sad to lose one of the special one's. Bob seemed to have found the balance between what he knew he wanted and what he knew he already had...

May you Rest Forever in Peace, Bob.

What sad news about Bob's passing! I've been thinking of him and all the fun we used to have on the slopes at Birch Park. My son is now snowboarding out at Afton and I keep thinking, if he's doing half the stuff we did he's in big trouble! Bob was such an awesome skiier. It was fun to watch him fly down the hill as graceful as ever. I think every girl in the class of 77 had a crush on him at some point of our Jr. High or High School years. What a smile. Rest in peace Bob and I hope the slopes are full of new snow in heaven!

The most impressionable years of my life were spent with the "South Hill" gang. Bob led a contingent of free roaming youngsters - Joe White, Mike Roe, Brian Harview, Bruce Regis, Tim Schmidt, Steve Hesse - just to name a few. Great memories of playing on the Vikings football team. Champions over the Cowboys. Coach Juell is still my favorite. The Panthers in Colt Baseball. I remember Bob more as "Sore". I always saw Bob as someone that should have been in the movies or on the beach in CA. An infectious smile and tremendous natural talent would get him whatever he wanted. Bob, the Class of 1977 will surely, carry and share your memory thoughtout the rest of our lives. Thank you for being my friend. Doug.

I first met bob in 5th grade, He was playing basketball for st. michaels. Nobody could stop him on the court,He was so fast. He had the best hands in football, Playing in jr. high was great, They would double cover him and i would be wide open. Those were great times that i will never forget. I wish i could of had the chance to see bob one more time to talk to him about the good old days.

Bob was always kind and included everybody in his circle of friends. The more the better! I think of all of the people that he touched and I know he will be missed by all.

As a childhood and teenage friend the memories come rushing forward. They are good memories:

• Washington Park and sitting for hours on “the Hill” with the most beautiful girls in the world as our friends.

• Junior High gym class and being chased around the track at the old athletic field by the gym teacher. (Mr. B.) Getting “the paddle” for inciting a riot

• The sinking of the houseboat on the St Croix River. Sorry Chris!

• Rex Trapper. The Who.

• His cars - the GTO and the Rambler

• The house on Myrtle Street and the Halloween parties

We were always getting “in trouble” but in many ways it was just living and growing. We had fun.

Bob/Eddie – May you rest in peace. God Bless.
