Steven Robert SANDBERG

Age 79, Inver Grove Heights, MN Steve passed away on May 3, 2023 at the VA Hospital. Steve was born on Nov. 29, 1943 in Austin, MN. He spent his childhood in St. Paul, MN. Steve became a Navy Seabee in 1962 and served 3 years in Okinawa and Alaska. Steve was united in marriage on Aug. 15, 1970 to Elaine Tofte at Fort Snelling Chapel. They had 2 children: Jill in 1974 and Daniel in 1976. They moved to their home in Inver Grove Heights in 1976. Steve was an ironworker learning his skills at an early age from his grandfather at N.H. Sandberg Erection Co. After retirement, he volunteered at the VA Hospital as an escort to show his appreciation for the wonderful care he received there. He was especially grateful to his oncologist, Gobind Tarchand. Steve enjoyed trap shooting, motorcycling and teaching firearm safety. Steve is survived by his wife Elaine, daughter Jill (Rhonda), son Daniel, grandson Justin, sister Laurel, brother-in-law David (Donna) Tofte, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Penny. Join us at a gathering to celebrate Steve's life at West End Trap Club, 4899 Brooklyn Lane, Eagan, MN on Friday, May 19 from 3:30-6:30. There will be a private family interment at Fort Snelling Cemetery at a later date. Memorials preferred to donor's choice. ¾
