Nov. 16, 2017 and I am just learning of Captain Lee's passing. He was a true best friend. Remembering so many smiles being with and flying with Captain Lee. I will miss you very much, it hurts to know that I will never again be able to call you for a many smiles conversation.

In the spring of 1980, I was about to take my CFI ride at the University of Minnesota Flight School at Anoka County, Blaine. Lee Bradshaw walked in and said, I'm looking for a glider instructor, anybody interested. A ride in a glider is what had brought about my interest in aviation so I said I'm Interested. Lee talked me out of taking my CFI ride as it would have added an additional 15 hours in gliders to add on the CFIG. I started flying with him the next day and had my Commercial Glider and CFIG inside of ten days. I have always been the kind of person who liked those who listened to the beat of a different drum. That was Lee! The first day at the glider port, Lee drove his van with his knees so he could play his harmonica. He was so interesting. He was a gifted instructor. I taught and towed for Lee for a couple of summers. We became lifelong friends.
After I had flown in the corporate world for 15 years, Lee called me and invited himself to dinner. He even laid out the menu. Steak and Apple pie. During dinner he said that I was not only not having fun, I had forgotten what fun was. He informed my 15 year old daughter that she could be solo in a glider and was living with a glider instructor. He demanded that we meet him at Osceola the next day. As my daughter and I drove down the road to the airport, Lee flew over us in his gyrocoptergray beard, yellow helmet and orange vest looking like Sean Connery flying a machine given to him by Q! Lee sat in the back of his Husky while I did 3 landings to a full stop making me legal but still very rusty in a tail dragger after so many years. Than he climbed out and said tow us to 3000 as he climbed into a 2-33 with my daughter. After I dropped them I flew out over the farm fields of Wisconsin and thought Lee is right, I have forgotten what fun is! I bought a 172 a few weeks later and have flown light aircraft in addition to my professional flying ever since. Lee Bradshaw was a wonderful person. He enriched my life. I will always carry him with me..especially when I fly.
Regards,
Richard Sedgwick

I wanted to add more from my niece..."I'll always remember my ride with Lee in his 1929 open-cockpit biplane, that was one of the coolest things I've ever done. He was a very nice man and it was truly a pleasure flying with him."

Lee was a wonderful Guy, always upbeat, always chipper.
I flew my Commercial Glider Check ride out of Benson's Airport with Designated Pilot Examiner Lee many years ago. I later became Lee's Personal Attorney.
Lee was a long time Benson's Airport Regular. He flew to the Annual Benson's Summer Party on Birch Island Lake at Voyager Village Wisconsin. Landed on the water and then taxied his Lake Amphibian right unto Harlan's Beach, next to the ever present Beer Keg! Those were the Days.....
Happy Landings Captain, until we all meet again.

Never met this man, but what a life! He is an inspiration to everyone! Wow! Guaranteed he is flying with the angels and not needing any extra equipment. He lived like we all are supposed to - everyday is a new adventure, have no regrets and live life to the fullest. Amazing obituary - rock on Winthrop Lee.

Lee was such a great guy and generous with his experience and ability. I have a niece who had exhibited an interest in flying and Lee had no problem taking her up to show her what an airplane can do. I'll miss him greatly as he lived a very full life and I learned a lot from him. R.I.P. Captain

Did not know your father, just love how his obituary reads. He surely lived an adventurous life.
