Dear Makovetsky family:
My wife and I send you our deepest sympathy. Although we never met, we feel a kinship through my knowing her grandfather Mickey for some 73 years.
I grew up with Mickey on Thomas Avenue North in the 1930s and 40s along with a bunch of guys known as Barney Ross AZA. I'm sure that Zoe had inherited some of the fine qualities that Mickey acquired from his parents, David and Violet. I remember them well.

Dear Sally, Alex, Max and Eli,
I gasped when I heard that Zoe had passed away, the breath knocked out of me. As much as she valiantly struggled with life as we know it, I know she was bathed in the light of complete and total love by all of you. Strong, beautiful soul that Zoe.
Sally, you've been an inspiration for all - not just giving every breath in your efforts and love for Zoe but for your whole family unit. Now in your grief, I can only imagine how you are nurturing Max & Eli. And thank goodness for Alex's Russian genes - maybe that's where Zoe got some of her unyielding strength and determination. Not that it can lessen the pain, but I know that you, Sally and the boys will emerge from this tragedy an even stronger unit (as if that were even possible!)
I am so grateful that I got to stop in Minneapolis to meet Zoe and will NEVER forget her spirit and the love that I witnessed in your home.
Love,
Lauri

Dear Alex, Sally, Max, Eli, Mickey and Kaye:
I just returned from a camping trip and heard the heart-breaking news about Zoe. Dear Makovetsky Family,
I have never had the pleasure of meeting your family but my sister, Karen Wells, always made me feel like I knew you. She would call and share stories of how much Zoe was teaching her about sign language and how much fun she had when she was working. I loved hearing "Zoe" stories. I know Zoe has touched Karen's life deeply and she will always be remembered.
My thoughts are with your family during this difficult time. Zoe was an amazing child and touched so many lives.

Alex, Sally, Max and Eli,
I work with your Grandfather Makovetsky. I grew to know Zoe through his joys and pains when he would speak, from his heart, about his love for Zoe. He shared with me just a couple of weeks ago about his happiness when Zoe had just learned to tell him, in her way, "I love you". He was overjoyed as he expressed his feelings. She touched all of us today, some of whom never met her as the sory of her short life was shared. May God grant you peace in your loss of such a special child. Monte

Sally, Alex, Max and Eli:
We will all miss your little Princess. She was so much fun, and she was always up to the next challenge. What a blessing she was to all of us who knew her in her short life. Know that all of your nurses are thinking of you all, and grieving with you, but we are also celebrating the wonderful little spirit that has gone on to heaven, where she can be just as she wants to be forever. I will see her impish, crooked smile on my tree every Christmas and remember your angel, and all the joy she spread to everyone around her. I know that God gave her to you because you were meant to have her. You were such great advocates for her, and gave of yourselves so completely to make sure that she had the best life possible. She was so loved by her parents and by her big brothers, whom she adored, that despite so many hurdles in her short life, she lived it to the fullest and was a very happy little bee.
My thoughts and love are with you all, today and in the future,
Nurse Jean

Dearest Sally, Alex, Max, and Eli,
We are so sorry for your loss. Zoe was such a phenomenal soul, always doing what was so unexpected, surprising and astounding everyone with her "dare me" attitude. You gave her more than anyone else could have, she chose you and she couldn't have been loved as endlessly and completely by any other famiy. Sally you are a hero to many (including me), as I'm sure you are to your little girl.
As Zoe finished her run here on earth we know that she has been welcomed by a friend, now they can finally play together.
We love you, and our hearts our with you now more than ever.
I'll see you tomorrow.
Love to all,
Alicia
