Edith Gentry Obituary

Edith Madge Gentry was born in Chesterfield, England, on April 23, 1916, daughter of John and Edith Mary Brice. They came to America and settled in San Jacinto, Calif., when Edith was a child.
She attended school in California and graduated from Excelsior High. She then became a licensed practical nurse and worked in California and the old Roosevelt Hospital.
She married Thomas Bryan Gentry of Ioka in 1937 and then they had two daughters, Louise Jorgensen (John) of Ioka and Pat Keech (David) of Arizona. She became a citizen of the United States in 1943.
Edith was active in the Eastern Star in the Roosevelt, Vernal, and Price chapters and served as Matron several times. She loved to quilt and made many Dry Gulch Cattlemen's Association brand quilts. One of her brand quilts hangs in the Chase Museum in Salt Lake as an example of early folkart. She was an excellent cook and many "hay hauling crews" remember her dinners. She was active in the Myton Presbyterian church for many years and the Birthday Club for 40 years.
She lived in Ioka for about 60 years and then moved to Phoenix, Ariz. She died Oct. 31, 2010 and was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gentry, her parents and her five brothers.
She will be buried in Hemet, Calif.
She is survived by her two daughters, nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, with two great-grandchildren expected soon.
Services were conducted in Phoenix, Ariz., by the Episcopalian Church as Edith belonged to the Church of England.
