William Trefethen Obituary

William "Willie" Porter Trefethen, 74, died July 30, 2005 at his home in Addy, Wash.

He was born March 16, 1931 to Henry Porter and Hazel Sanford Trefethen.

He grew up in Kents Hill and attended the "Little School" on Kents Hill and Kents Hill School.

In his adult years, he moved to California where he joined the U.S. Navy. Upon his discharge, he remained in California working in construction with his brother, Sanford. He later worked for many years at Basalt Gravel Co. in Healdsburg, Calif.

Upon retirement, he spent his summers at his home near the home of his childhood in Kents Hill. During these times, he would visit his many Maine friends, enjoying mowing his lawns with his John Deere tractor, and await the arrival of his siblings so they could enjoy their hometown together.

The group would often be seen riding the back roads in a wagon, towed by a 1935 Case tractor once owned by their father and restored by Willie. This old tractor was his pride and joy and was featured on the Farm Reporter on TV From Chicago. A quote from Max Armstrong of that program stated of Willie, "It's a long way to travel for a love affair with an old tractor."

He is predeceased by his parents; and a daughter, Cindy.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; a granddaughter; two sisters, Evelyn Detro and Alice Crosby, both of Ukiah, Calif.; two brothers, Sanford Trefethen of Healdsburg, Calif. and Frelan Trefethen of Minden, Nev.; several nieces, nephews, and many friends throughout the United States.

At his request, there were no services.
