Hermina Kiel Obituary

Hermina went to her eternal home on October 3, 2025, and is resting in the arms of her Savior.

She was born to William and Jennie Terpstra on October 21, 1933. She grew up on a farm in Ogilvie, Minnesota, where she had fond memories of helping her dad out in the barn. She was the second oldest of nine children.

In 1955, she married the love of her life, Haijo Kiel. They lived in Pease, Minnesota, attended Pease Christian Reformed Church, and had four children before moving to the country in Milaca. They started a business in Bock, Minnesota called Bock Sales, which sadly burned to the ground. They later started a new business on their land called Country Sales & Furniture, which thrived. They were able to sell the business and retire in 1983. Haijo and Hermina helped to start Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Princeton, Minnesota and used their time and talents to serve the church. Hermina especially loved leading the Children in Worship Program at the church. Together they traveled to many fun destinations, spent a lot of time with their children and grandchildren, and made tons of beautiful wooden crafts. Her latest home was at Sunset Manor in Jenison, Michigan, where she moved to be close to some of her children. At Sunset, she was loved by all of the staff, and they all knew she loved God and her family.

Hermina will be lovingly remembered by her family, friends, church family, and all of the children whose lives have been touched. Hermina's warm smile, caring ways, and servant heart made her a valued part of each of her communities.

Hermina is survived by her children: Julie (Paul) Smith, Carl (Sandy) Kiel, Sharry (Brian) Kragt, and Diane (Brian) DeVries; 15 grandchildren who she adored; and 23 great-grandchildren who called her Grandma Great. She is also survived by her siblings, Alice VandenBerg, Bud (Vonda) Terpstra, Rosie Nelson, JoAnn (Hank) Byl, John Terpstra; sister-in-law, Olive Terpstra; and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Haijo Kiel; parents, William and Jennie Terpstra; mother-in-law, Cora Kiel; brothers, Eugene, Stanley, and Peter; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and her grandson, Jesse Kiel.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 1-4 pm at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 8938 33rd St., Princeton, MN. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Bethel Christian Reformed Church. Condolences may be sent online at www.mkdfuneralhome.com.
