Maenette Bates
UNION — Ruby Manette Lipscomb Bates, 86, 115 East Lee Street, Union, SC, entered eternal rest on Wednesday morning, February 10, 2016 in Heartland of Union.
A native of Union County, SC she was the widow of Claude Bates and daughter of the late Will Lipscomb and Anna Shell Lipscomb.
She was a member of Beatty's Chapel AME Zion Church, a graduate of Sims High School, and a member of Queen of Sheba OES Chapter #23.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Royce Bates and Willis "Bug" Bates; and one daughter, Annie Rose Williams.
She is survived by five sons, John Edward (Vera) Bates of Cross Anchor, SC, James Robert (Cynthia) Bates of Pacolet, SC, Ernest (Lori Beaty) Bates of the home, Wilson Bates Sr., and Freddie Bates; both of Union, SC; two daughters, Sally Martin of Greenville, SC and Joyce (Larry) Byrd of Union, SC; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Beaty's Chapel AME Zion Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
Arrangements are with the Michael A Glenn funeral home, 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
