ARLENE CUNNINGHAM Obituary

In Loving Memory of Arlene Wallace Cunningham
November 22, 1926-January 29, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arlene Wallace Cunningham. Arlene left this world on 1/29/2024 leaving behind a remarkable legacy that will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Born in 1926 to Orrace Adams Tyler from Massachusetts and Doris Arlene (Firth) Tyler from England, Arlene's journey began in Medford, MA where she spent her formative years
Upon graduating from the Katherine Gibbs School for executive secretaries in 1946, Arlene embarked on a career that would shape her future. The Katherine Gibbs School, renowned for its rigorous standards and commitment to professionalism, taught Arlene the importance of flawless office skills, organization, punctuality, and above all, the art of presenting oneself with elegance. Arlene's dedication to her studies and her unwavering commitment to perfection led her to develop a remarkable work ethic that would define her career. In an era where hats, heels and white gloves were considered essential in a professional setting, Arlene effortlessly mastered the art of combining style with substance. Her impeccable fashion sense was a reflection of her attention to detail and her commitment to presenting herself with utmost grace and sophistication.
Upon completing her education, Arlene embarked on a journey to the west coast to visit her cousin. Little did she know that fate had a wonderful surprise in store for her. It was during this trip that she met the love of her life, David J Wallace. Their connection was instantaneous, and they tied the knot in 1948. Together, they were blessed with four children: David, Scott, Sharon and Colleen.
Arlene's career took her to Yosemite Community College, where she began working in 1968, just as Columbia College was being founded. Her dedication to her work spanned nearly two decades until her retirement in 1987. Additionally, she supported her husband in his business ventures by managing the bookkeeping responsibilities. Arlene's organization skills were invaluable in keeping the family's business affairs in order.
Family was of utmost importance to Arlene. She actively participated in her children's lives and served as PTA President on multiple occasions. Arlene's involvement in various school events and extracurricular activities demonstrated her unwavering support for her children. Sadly, Arlene experienced the loss of her husband, Dave, after 48 years of marriage, as well as the passing of her daughter, Sharon. However, she was blessed to find true love once again in Dean Cunningham. They were married in 2009 and shared 14 precious years of travel, companionship and created countless family memories.
Arlene is survived by her husband, W Dean Cunningham, his children Scott (Marsha), David and Susan (Terry) Froman. Grandchildren, Angie (Mark Peaslee) Taylor, Brittney (Eric) Phillips, Drew, Matthew and Nathan (Stacy) Cunningham.
Arlene is survived by her children, David Wallace, Scott (Melinda) Wallace and Colleen (John) Myrtakis. Her legacy continues through her five grandchildren: Caleb Wilkinson, Brian Brazeal, David Myrtakis, Kay (Fred) Vaucher and Justin (Jena) Jackson. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren.
Arlene is survived by her devoted sister, Shirley (Fred) DeScenza and her family, Sheryl (Kevin) Tacy, Deborah Gray, Diane (John) Herth, Allison (Lucien) Hodgman and Tyler (Suzann) DeScenza and eleven grand nieces and nephews.
Arlene is survived by lifelong friends that are family, the Ferraro children, Debbie (Paul) Simonson, Christine (Dan) Tallman and Patty Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Arlene's honor to Farmsteads of New England, 213 Center Road, Hillsborough, NH 03244 or any charity close to your heart. A service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on February 17, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Church of the 49'ers, located at 11155 Jackson Street, Columbia, CA.
Rest peacefully, dear mother, knowing that your love and all you taught us will continue to shine within us.
