Betty Martin

1927 - 2025

Tuolumne County native, Betty Martin, was born on February 16, 1927 to Phillip and Clara Tomasevich in Stent, California. Betty entered eternal life on August 23, 2025, at the age of 98.

At three months old, Betty moved with her family to Confidence, where her father built Confidence Inn. Confidence was Betty and her siblings' stomping grounds. They would walk to and from school down to Twain Harte, playing in the creeks along the way, weather permitting.

She would reminisce about the days when the horses and buggies would stop in at Confidence for a rest stop and that her mother would prepare and feed entire wagon crews.

At a very young age, Betty learned how to do an honest, hard day's work, working in the store stocking the shelves and waiting on customers. She would even pump gas into the Model T cars!

Betty was married to Lowell Martin for 31 years, before he passed away in 1984. Betty and Lowell operated L.H. Martin Trucking, Inc. for 21 years, with Betty being the Administrator, dispatching all of the trucks and writing out all of the bills of lading by hand. They started out in the logging business, moving on to hauling lumber through Pickering, Fibreboard, and Louisiana Pacific down to Southern California and hauling rolls of paper back.

Betty was the matriarch of her family after Lowell's passing. She showed her daughters strength, wisdom, and determination in her long, blessed life.

Betty is survived by her loving daughters Norean Martin of Soulsbyville, Terrie Martin Lemas of Sonora, and Shelly Martin-Goularte (Jeff) of Jamestown. Her grandchildren, whom Betty was so proud of, are Amber Karpus (Paul) of Sonora, Zach Lemas (Joelyne) of Sonora, and Weston Goularte of San Ramon. Her great-grandchildren, who adored Betty, are Tyler and Kaylee Karpus, and Jackson and Isabelle Lemas. Nieces and nephews are Debbie Campbell, Gary Campbell, and Phillip Tomasevich.

A private family service and burial will be held. Many thanks to the nursing staff and doctors at Adventist Health Sonora who cared for Betty in the final days of her life. We love you and we miss you, Mom.
