Frank Cummings Jr.

1927 - 2022

Jamestown resident Frank Cummings Jr. passed away on July 10, 2022, at the age of 95.
A lifelong resident of Tuolumne County, Frank was devoted to his family, his ranch in Jamestown, and his search for gold. He attended Moccasin Grammar School and Sonora High School before joining the Navy during World War II.
Frank married his childhood sweetheart, Pauline Segale, in 1950. They lived a short three months in San Francisco before returning to their real home in Tuolumne County. His youthful hobbies of hunting and fishing with the elder Segale brothers continued into adulthood contributing venison, quail, dove and trout to a growing family.
Frank worked for PG&E before beginning a 30-year career at Hetch Hetchy Water and Power, where he retired as electrical superintendent. After retirement, Frank followed in his father's and grandfather's footsteps mining for the ever-elusive gold, all the while growing his vegetables and being sure all the kids had oil in their cars and air in their tires.
Pauline died in 1992, and Frank married Jeanne Hinkley, of Groveland. Jeanne followed Frank in death nine days later, on July 19, 2022.
Frank is survived by his children, Diana Cummings and Linda Layden; grandchildren Jeannie (and George) Eaton, Bernie (and Diane) Porter, Matt (and Lindsey) Cummings, Aaron Cummings; great-grandchildren Stephon Eaton, Gary Eaton, Paidia Majcher, Logan and Ben Cummings; his sister, Ann Cummings Knox; and his stepchildren from Jeanne. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Pauline Segale Cummings, and his son, David Edward Cummings.
Family and friends will remember Frank's sense of humor and ability to maintain a straight face while telling the tallest of tales. He will be greatly missed.
