My name is Chris R. Lampe and I was the California League historian. As a 10 year old boy in 1955 I fell in love with baseball and the San Jose Red Sox. I listened to their games on radio and to a 10 year old it seemed that the Stockton Ports first baseman, Tom Munoz was always hitting a home run to beat my Red Sox. I hated Tom Munoz!
Years later I became a Minority Owner of the San Jose Giants and later the California League historian. In the 2000's I attended one of Pat Filippone's Stockton Ports alumni nights representing the League. I couldn't
believe it when I was introduced to Tom Munoz! I told him the story about how as a 10 year old I hated him. He LOVED the story!
Over the years Tom shared with me many stories of the 1955 and 1956 Stockton Ports. They were priceless.
My greatest honor was being invited to Tom's Ports
reunions at his home on the Delta. It was great to share baseball stories. But, what stood out the most was Tom's love for his family and the genuine bond of
friendship between Tom and his teammates from the 1950's. It was amazing to see 60 and 70 year old men
reliving their dreams of playing the game of baseball when they were in their 20's.
To a 10 year old in 1955 Tom Munoz was a villain. Years later, and most importantly, Tom Munoz became my hero!
I will miss you Tom!

My thoughts are with your family. Tom was a true gentleman and I greatly enjoyed the time I spent with him talking baseball, travel, and life in general. His Stockton Port reunions were great fun and his time spent at our new ballpark was greatly appreciated.
