Allen Lang Obituary

Rev. Allen C. Lang, 69 of Culpeper, VA, formerly of Oxford passed away unexpectedly on April 1, 2017 at University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, VA. He was born on September 14, 1947 in Manchester, NH a son Michael and Norma (Freese) Lang. On September 6, 1969, he married Carol A. Newcombe.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Lang; his parents, Michael and Norma Lang; his children and families, Kathryn and John Alexander and children, Grace, Lilly and Maddie, and Elizabeth and Mark Fowkes and children, Eleanor and Cecilia; his brother, Jeffrey Lang and Patricia Sullivan; his sister, Gail Lang; and his sister in law and brother in law, Diana and Robert Ainsworth. Several nieces, nephews and cousins and uncle also survive.

Allen graduated from West High School in Manchester, NH, as well as the University of New Hampshire where he was a member of the ROTC, and Andover-Newton Theological Seminary. He served churches in Delmont, Tripp and Aberdeen, South Dakota. For 25 years, he served the United Church of Oxford, where he also sang in the choir and played with the United Brass. He enjoyed playing the clarinet and saxophone. He played in the community band for several years and participated in community theater, and was also a member of the New Hampshire Men's Chorus. He loved reading, movies and trivia. He also enjoyed playing golf.

He was a member of and Past Master of Oxford Lodge 175 F&AM, Past District Grand Lecturer of the Broome-Chenango District, and a Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of the State of New York. He was a member and Past High Priest of Oxford Chapter 254, Royal Arch Masons, Past Assistant Grand Lecturer of the 21st Capitular District and Past District Deputy Grand High Priest of the 21st Capitular District. He was a member and Past Commander of Norwich Commandry 46, Grand Prelate Grand Commandry, State of New York, holder of the Knight Commander of the Temple award and a member of Order of Knights Preceptor. Member and Past Illustrious Master of Oneonta Council 87, and Past Grand Chaplain. He was Past Eminent Prior, Crusade Priory, Knights of the York Cross of Honor. He was Past Governor, Southern Tier York Rite College and holder of The Order of the Purple Cross. He was Past Puissant Sovereign of Christian Conclave Red Cross of Constantine. He was Past Master of Charles Smith Council Allied Masonic Degrees. He was a member and Chaplain of Kalurah Shriners, a member and Past Director of the Binghamton Court 61, Royal Order Jesters. He was a member and Past Patron of Lafayette Chapter 340 Order of the Eastern Star, Past District Lecturer of the Broome-Chenango District and currently Grand Representative to Virginia. He was a member of the Valley of Binghamton, Scottish Rite Masons. He also was a member of the Order of Old Saratoga, Order of the Yellow Dog and Order of Turtles.

Services will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the United Church of Oxford, 25 Main St., Oxford, NY followed by a reception at the Fellowship Hall of the church. Memorial contribution may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Springfield, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.

Carol & family: I am so sorry and shocked at the announcement of Allen's passing. I extend my sympathy and prayers to all of you. Allen was a fantastic person and minister. I am so glad I got to see him again at Plymouth's anniversary weekend. I sent him a lot of pictures which I know he enjoyed. I hope he shared them with all of you. He will be misses.
