Brian McDevitt Obituary

Brian McDevitt, 66, of Rye, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021 from complications due to pancreatic cancer. Always in charge until the very end, he elected to halt medical treatments so that he may pass on his own terms. He left this life just as he lived it - on his terms. And, just like the fireworks that day, he left a booming impression on us all.

Brian spent his entire career in the family business, McDevitt Trucks, Inc. He loved the company, coworkers, customers, and vendors. He established a reputation as a tireless advocate for customers. He often drove overnight or met at "O'Dark Thirty," as he would say, to resolve a service issue, customer complaint, or make a sale!

Brian made the most of every day of his life and made every day an adventure. He was expert at piloting a plane, helicopter, or a yacht, running a dump truck or an excavator, and operating a motorcycle or snowmobile - no machine could escape his prowess. He was not only expert with machinery; he loved camp, the outdoors, and skiing. If cooking and eating were an Olympic event, he'd take gold.

Brian's most significant accomplishment was not only making the most of every day of his life, but more importantly, making the most of every day with those whose lives he shared. One cannot think of Brian without cracking a smile. Always loud and upbeat, and constantly armed with a tease, wisecrack, or, "How come...," a visit from Brian would always leave one laughing, or baffled, or both.

Brian was not just a comic, despite his carefree disposition. He was an intelligent and articulate businessperson. He served as Vice President as well as various sales and management positions with McDevitt Trucks throughout his entire career. His insight and guidance helped steer the company throughout its very successful 47-year history. The company will proudly carry on, as Brian would have wished.

More than anything, Brian loved family first. He is survived by the love of his life, Kelly, with whom he shared 25 years of marriage and adventures. Together they enjoyed the outdoors, travel, or simple nights with friends. Brian is also survived by his mom, Pauline, and his brothers Jack, Kevin, Dennis, and Michael, and their families. Brian was predeceased by his beloved father, Jack, Sr, in 2015. We can be certain that the two of them are causing trouble somewhere right now!

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, July 16th at St. Theresa Church, 815 Central Road, Rye Beach, NH 03871. A reception and celebration of life will immediately follow at the Wentworth by the Sea Country Club, 60 Wentworth Road, Rye, NH 03870.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brian's name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or to the charity of one's choice. Please visit www.RemickGendron.com to view Brian's memorial website, sign his tribute wall or for directions.

Rest in peace, Brian. We loved you.

Doctor! Did we have fun! Brian was so easy to love, always good natured, nice to everybody and a true man of action. Never knew anyone who could make me laugh like you did. Brian, the Big Guy took you early but you took full advantage of the time you were given, good work.
Kelly, so sorry for you, hang in there!

To Kelly and the McDevitt family,
I will always remember Brian for his sense of humor, and his ease of forging friendships with everyone he met. Brian was an amazing athlete and as I remember one heck of a Cannon Mountain skier!! Almost forgot about the amount of time he skied at Sugarloaf too, again as one heck of a Sugarloaf skier!!
My deepest thoughts and condolences are with all the McDevitt family at this time and do know Brian's contagious bubbly personality and friendship will be remembered by all.
