Daniel Fitzgerald Obituary

Daniel Jude Fitzgerald, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at the age of 84. A lifelong resident of Manchester, New Hampshire, Dan was born on May 9, 1940, to Richard and Florence Fitzgerald.

Dan was predeceased by his cherished wife, Rachel "Blondie" Fitzgerald, their son Daren Fitzgerald and Dan's brother, Gerald Fitzgerald. He leaves behind a devoted family: his three sons-Richard Fitzgerald and daughter-in-law Roxanne of Newtown, Pennsylvania; Kevin Fitzgerald and daughter-in-law Carrie of Londonderry, New Hampshire; and Sean Fitzgerald and daughter-in-law Kristen of Wesley Chapel, Florida. He is also survived by his loving sister, Christine Contois, and his seven treasured grandchildren: Daniel, Caleb, Jack, Marline, Brendan, Kellan, and Casey.

A veteran of the United States Army, Dan carried the values of loyalty, service, and commitment throughout his life. He dedicated much of his time to the youth of his community, coaching West Little League baseball and playing a key role in launching Jutras Post #43 American Legion baseball, where he saw the team win a state title in 1985 as athletic director. Dan was also heavily involved in the creation and early success of West Youth Soccer. In his later years, Dan continued his devotion to youth sports as an assistant coach in the LAFA Baseball program, sharing his wisdom and love of the game with a new generation in Londonderry, New Hampshire. His passion for mentoring and sports left a lasting legacy.

Dan was a natural-born salesman-if it could be built, he could sell it. From homes and siding to encyclopedias and windows, he did it all. But it was his time selling copiers for Conway Office Solutions that he fondly considered his favorite job.

Those who knew Dan will remember a man of unwavering loyalty and fierce dedication. If he was in your corner, there was no greater ally. And if you found yourself on the other side, you certainly knew it. His larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and deep love for his family and friends will be dearly missed.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 25th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Webster Street, Manchester on Wednesday, March 26th at 10 a.m., followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to a youth sports organization of your choice or Alzheimer's Association in Dan's memory.

Mr. Fitz was my first baseball coach that I had when I played for Harris Sporting Goods for the West Little League. He was a great man and worked very hard for the kids and youth sports. We were city champions in 1982 which I know he was very proud of us and that accomplishment. He loved all his children and his wife-Blondie very much. Rest in peace Mr. Fitz and we will all be seeing you on the baseball field one day.

To all of Dan's family and friends I am offering my condolences. I knew Dan from childhood we were neighbors playing ball in the alley of Rimmon and Dubuque streets to being students at Bishop Bradley HS. Beyond that Dan and Blondie were part of me and my wife's wedding in 1961. After we were married, we got an apartment next door to Blondie's home. We spent many years hanging out at The Recreation Spa and double dating etc.

Uncle Dan was a wonderful man for many reasons. We loved to listen to him tell a story and that laugh!
He cared so deeply for those he loved. We went to a Red Sox game and Dave said he knew an easy way to get there. Aunt Blonde was driving and we got stuck in a traffic jam and Uncle Dan kept asking Aunt Blonde if she was ok driving. She said David I thought this was supposed to be the easy way!!! Dave loved them growing up and I loved them when I joined the family.
Rest in Peace Uncle Dan and I am sure Aunt Blondie will be so happy to see you.
Love & Light to all the family
