David Barnes Obituary

WEBSTER - David Eugene Barnes of Webster, NH passed away on April 19, 2016, while being held by his wife and children. Dave was a loving husband of nearly 52 years to Susan; proud father to Heather and Chris; and the world's best "Bepa" to Robbie, Aiden, Tucker, Keanan, and Aniah.

Dave was born in New Britain, CT on May 12, 1939. After graduating from high school, he served in the Army for two years. He returned home to attend college and begin his career. In 1962, a friend introduced him to Sue, the love of his life. Together, they lived in New Britain, Harwington, Kensington, and Barkhamsted, CT; Pulaski, TN; and Swanzey, NH. Dave spent his entire career in mechanical engineering, finishing at Timken in Keene and Split Ball Bearing in Lebanon. He still holds out hope that one of his grandchildren will follow him into this career, which he found endlessly interesting.

In 1995, they moved to Webster, NH, where they found a welcoming community and wonderful neighbors. Soon after, Dave was fortunate to be able to retire. This gave him the opportunity to pursue a multitude of passions: traveling with his wife; helping neighbors; volunteering with Servcorps; spending time with his grandchildren; building wooden boats and sports cars; and working with his antique tractors.

David is survived by his wife, Susan, of Webster; his children, Heather Jasmin and her husband Michael of Alstead, NH; and Christopher Barnes, and his wife Brenda of Little River, SC; and five grandchildren: Robert Franklin, Aiden and Keanan Jasmin, and Tucker and Aniah Barnes. He also leaves his brother, Craig Barnes, of Coventry, CT; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jack and Cindy Kadzik of Orleans, MA and their children; a number of cousins; and many loyal friends who enriched his life. This dedicated and loving support system, with the help of the wonderful team at Concord VNA, allowed him to remain at home during his brave struggle with COPD and lung cancer. Dave is predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Patricia Barnes.

Those of us fortunate to have known Dave will remember his love for his wife, his dedication to his grandchildren, his strong sense of ethics, his keen intellect, craftsmanship, and his great sense of humor.

SERVICES: A celebration of Dave's life will be held at the First Congregational Church, 1011 Long Street, Webster, NH on Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m. The Reverend David Robinson will officiate. A reception will follow at the Webster Town Hall. The family asks that donations be sent to the First Congregational Church of Webster.

Not sure what to say?

It sure doesn't seem possible that time goes by so fast as the death of David and then Susan.
I grew up as a little girl having many visits and outings with David and his parents in Connecticut. Matter of fact I have a picture that my brother David Williams sent me sometime ago with all of us on a picnic!

God Bless you all...

Just last week Lydia White and I were talking about a time Dave and Sue joined us on a trip to NYC. Once we arrived, they led us to a great bar and Dave in his typical way, opened the flood gates to a lively night. Just remembering that weekend bring a smile. I hope their family's hearts are warmed with stories of their own. Keeping you in my prayers.
