David Turner Obituary

David L. Turner September 23rd, 1950 - May 10th, 2024

David L. Turner, 73, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, at home with his family in New Boston NH, after a courageous battle of declining health.

David was the son of Louis Arthur and Raelene Grace (Vandebogart) Turner. David was born on September 23, 1950, in Concord NH. The family resided in Weare until David was 10 years old then the family moved to Goffstown, NH where he called home most of his life. He was the oldest of 4 boys, who were known for mischief around the house and always having some sort of ball games going on in their backyard. He graduated from Goffstown High School, Class of 1968 and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force. He ranked as a Sergeant, specializing in Photo Intelligence and although being afraid of heights, he hung out of helicopters in Thailand and Vietnam during the war. He returned home in 1972 and continued in the reserves until November 1974. David was employed in the screen-photography/printing press business for over 20 years. He then proudly served as a US Postal Carrier for his hometown of Goffstown for 20 years. He enjoyed talking to the people and always had a treat ready for the dogs along his route. He retired in 2020 due to illness. Mike McKinnon, was his first and lifelong best friend. The family is so grateful to Mike for all of his help with appointments and the time spent with David. A special thank you to David's daughter in law, Deirdre, his side kick and care giver. She always helped him stay positive and they had a lot of fun together.

David's favorite pastime was being around family and friends. His love of sports did not go unnoticed. He played soccer, basketball, and baseball in school. He played and coached softball for Indian Head Athletics for many years. He coached his son David's Goffstown Junior Baseball teams, All-Star teams and Parks and Rec Basketball. After his son was out of high school, David continued coaching for GJB and MVMS Boys Basketball. He was always happy to see his daughter Kimberly's dance recitals and as a cheerleader (with the bonus of watching basketball). His grandson, Ryan Turner Giroux, was his pride and joy! They enjoyed trips to the park, ice cream stands, playing Uno, and especially going to Fisher Cat Games. At those games he met the wonderful Lavigne family and was "adopted" as "Uncle Dave". He truly loved watching Cooper and Cassidy play sports. Baseball analytics fascinated him and was still journaling the numbers every day. David had quite a collection of music and enjoyed going to concerts with friends. He loved the beach, watching the waves or relaxing lakeside. His "fur" grandkids held a special place in his heart, along with the dogs on his route. He was a bird watching enthusiast and couldn't wait for the warmer weather. Of course, that also meant it was time for his personal favorite chocolate frappes! He had the biggest heart and was the best Dad, Father-in-law, Grampa, Brother, Uncle, Coach and friend.

David is survived by his son David and his wife Deirdre of New Boston, NH, his daughter Kimberly and her husband Steve Giroux, his grandson Ryan Giroux, his former wife, friend, and mother of his children, Diane (Duclos) Stevens, all of Goffstown NH. David is also survived by his three brothers, Warren and his wife Cathy Turner of Hampton, NH, Lanny and his wife Marianne Turner of Fairfax, VA, Eric and his wife Cindy Turner of Nashua, NH. And several nieces and nephews.

I miss my friend but the memories stay forever.
I think of him often when I'm sitting on a beach. A place he loved. I don't ever remember him getting in the water, but would sit for hours looking out at the water and wait for the seagulls to steal someone's lunch. For years we always went to a seafood restaurant because he would ask me where I'd like to go. Never mentioned he was allergic to shellfish. Even went to the seafood festival at Hampton Beach. I always wondered why he chose chicken. Three years later I found out during a conversation. He was always willing to compromise. And of course sports when watching a game I think of him. He knew everything and everyone on the teams.

I am saddened to hear of Dave´s passing. I worked with Dave back in the 90´s at Morgan Press, then later, he delivered mail to my home. I always enjoyed our occasional chats in the driveway or when we would run into each other at Hannaford. Sending my heartfelt sympathies to Dave´s family and friends at this difficult time.

My heart is broken. I owe my childhood happiness to Dee, David, David Jr., and Kim. I would do just about anything to go back to Hampton Beach vacations and playing baseball for Shaw´s. I loved Mr. Turner and always will. He was a great coach, passionate supporter, and a far better man. I send my love to you all. A piece of my youth is gone.
