David Wall Obituary

Colonel David F. Wall, USMC (Ret.) - passed away suddenly on Monday, February 19th at the age of 80. He leaves behind his beloved and cherished wife of 57 years, Gerry Palmisciano Wall of Methuen, MA, his son Christopher Wall of Somerset, MA, and his three daughters and their families, Jennifer and Drew Shelby of Worcester, MA, Jessica and Ryan Gallagher of Lowell, MA, and Deirdre and John Ellar, of Lowell, MA. He was a cherished and proud grandfather to Mikaela Shelby and her fiancé Ryan Pivonka, Christopher Shelby, Olivia and Jack Gallagher, Grace and Sophie Wall, and Miles and Leo Ellar. He is pre-deceased by his parents Frank and Grace Wall of Woburn, MA, and his siblings Mary Denise Wall of Woburn and Hampton, NH, and Gerard (Gerry) Wall of Woburn, and Salem, NH.

A proud family man, David also leaves behind his nieces and nephews Andrew Wall and Julie (Wall) Couture, Lynn (Palmisciano) McEntire, Jim Palmisciano, Mathew Palmisciano, PJ (Paul) Palmisciano and their beautiful families, his sister-in-law Susan Wall, and his brothers- in-law Bill and Paul Palmisciano and their wives Judi and Jeanne, as well as countless cousins, friends, Hibernian brothers, and of course his fellow brothers- and sisters-in-arms, his Marine Corps family.

Always a man of action and intent, Col. Wall was actively involved in many civic, cultural and faith-based organizations, including the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Manchester, NH, The Wardroom Club of Boston, Building Dreams for Marines, the Rotary Club of Bedford, NH, and St. Francis Parish in Dracut. Throughout the past ten years, he served as a tour leader for Military Historic Tours and conducted excursions throughout several European and Asian countries with deep military war histories. He was an avid civil war history buff, the collector of family genealogy, and he loved to travel.

A proud Woburnite, he attended St. Charles Borromeo for grammar school. He then attended Keith Academy in Lowell before he left home to attend Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. After graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended Officer Candidate School. He and Gerry married in 1966 and immediately moved to Monterey, CA for Dave to attend Vietnamese language school before serving in the Vietnam War. Col. Wall served in active duty for four years and active reserve for 23. He officially retired from the military in 1992.

Although Col. Wall's life actively involved military service, he spent his professional career as a high-level banking and business executive, holding the positions of vice president, president, and CFO in a variety of industries. David and Gerry lived in several locations throughout their lives, including Washington, D.C, Virginia, Rhode Island, Illinois, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. He obtained his MBA from Bryant College in Smithfield, RI and had a special place in his heart for Newfound Lake, New Hampshire.

A Funeral Mass will be held in St Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn on Thursday, February 29th, at 11:30 a.m. followed by interment and military honors in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to calling hours on Wednesday, February 28th, from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the LYNCH-CANTILLON FUNERAL HOME 263 Main St., Woburn. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Building Dreams For Marines P.O. Box 1704 Nashua, NH 03061, a non-profit organization established to provide life-enhancing home and vehicle modifications to Marines and other service members living with mobility challenges.

Dear Gerry and Family
Learning of David´s passing was heart wrenching. We are so sorry for your loss, and can´t imagine your pain and grief at this time. We hope that you can find strength in your family and the love of friends. We have known each other for sixty years. At the best of friends you asked us to be Chris´s godparents, and you are Laurie´s godparents.
We have many fond memories of our many visits with you in New Hampshire, as well as vacation trips to Arizona, Savannah, Cape Cod and you visiting us in Florida. Losing the one you love is so hard. We are praying for you, for peace and comfort and hope you will find strength in the love that you shared.
Love,
Pat and Nancy

I first met Dave when I was named his Assitant Treasurer of the Wardroom Club. We were a very good team and I enjoyed working with Dave through some challenging experiences beginning with the Pandemic. Our friendship quickly progressed beyond the club. Bob Pickett and I teamed up as the NAVY contingent in several golf matchs against the Marine team of Dave and Dick Brown. Lots of laughs, lots of fun, just so so golf. Dave, a wonderfull smile, a great sense of humor, a great Marine and a vauled friendship with a very promising future sadly ended. Maryann and with keep Dave, Gerry and their family in our hearts and prayers.

We were blessed to have shared so many wonderful and happy times together as family with your Dad. We would laugh until we cried sharing stories of family life over the years and always enjoyed hearing about his days at Keith Academy and Saint Anselm´s. A man of honor and dignity, we will always remember David´s deep love for his family, God, his Irish roots, leading military tours to Normandy, Ireland and Viet Nam and his love for the U. S. Marine Corp. His presence in our lives will be forever and deeply missed. Semper Fi, David . May you RIP forever in the arms of the One who loved us first

Dave was my 1st step cousin since his Aunt Clare married my uncle and Godfather, John Mawn. Dave & I were both born in Woburn but when I was in the 1st grade my parents moved our family to Lynn where I grew up. I was few years older than Dave and our parents were friends and thus Dave & I knew each other as pre-schoolers since I was only a few years older than Dave. We were both educated by the Xaverian Brothers (Dave at Keith Academy & I at Malden Catholic. Dave then went to far cold north to college at St. Anselm and I went only slightly north of Boston. Thus, I did not get to really know Dave until many years later when we again met as fellow members of the Wardroom Club. In my opinion, Dave was a patriot, a proud Irish-American practicing cradle Catholic (as was I) and a combat veteran of "The Nam" and a Marine's Marine.

In the past, I have formerly been a professional musician & currently I am a trumpet player in 2 Concert Bands/ Symphonic Wind Ensembles. Thus, I would be honored to again don my Service Dress Blue Naval uniform and play taps at Dave's burial. If you would like me to render this honor, please call me ASAP at 1-978-443-2565 or 1- 978- 443-9532.

Like most Marines, Dave is now guarding the "gates of heaven" and I wish him bon voyage to"Fiddler's Green" which i know he merited for his "Semper Fi" life. Request in pace!

Dave and I were great friends and had a lot in common....two Irish boys married to two Italian women. Then too we found out that we were descended from the same Irish king and therefore very distant cousins. We found it very funny. We were also honorary Lords of Derry, also pretty funny. We had some great adventures together and I will treasure them all. I will miss him. He was one of the most honorable men I have ever known and a true gentleman.
