WEARE -- Donald Jones, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Concord Hospital.
He was born April 30, 1924, the son of the late Ernest and Edith M (Carman) Jones, in Wrexham, Wales. He lived in Ontario, Canada, before moving to Weare.
Mr. Jones served in the Royal Air Force as a flight lieutenant during World War II. He married his wife, Muriel Bunn, in 1946 and together they moved to Ontario, Canada in 1948.
He attended the University of Toronto and worked as an accountant in the aircraft manufacturing business before moving to the United States in 1959. After 20 years as a comptroller and chief financial officer of an advertising firm in New York City, he moved to New Hampshire.
Mr. Jones lived with his wife in Weare for 20 years and continued to do bookkeeping, accounting and tax work for local small businesses until up to his death.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Muriel (Bunn) Jones of Weare; two daughters, Pamela Shepard, of Weare and Glynnis Stuart of Deering; a brother, Archie Jones of Birmingham, England; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. in the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 19 Hall Ave Henniker, NH. Graveside service will be Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Hillside Cemetery, Weare.
