Doris Bernard Obituary

Doris J. (Beernaert) Bernard, age 90, passed away at the Bel-Air Nursing Home in Goffstown, NH on Jan 21, 2019. Born on June 12, 1928 in Manchester, NH, she was the daughter of Theophile and Emma (Gelan) Beernaert. She was raised in Manchester and attended local schools. Doris and her husband, Roland, bought their home in 1954 in the Pinardville section of Goffstown where they raised their five children.Doris was a hard working mother who often worked nights to help provide for her family. Doris worked at US Rubber, R.G. Sullivan 7-20-4 Cigar Factory and retired from International Paper Co. She became a stay at home mom to spend more time with her family, grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. Doris was a dedicated Red Sox fan and rarely missed watching a game. She loved to drive with her friends to the lakes region, White Mountains and beaches and stop at her favorite restaurants along the way. Doris and Roland loved Florida and resided there for several years, but they also loved to travel. Some of her most memorable vacations were the Caribbean, northern Italy, the Vatican, Rome, and her family's hometown in Belgium. She enjoyed meeting new people, many of whom would become lifelong friends. Her personality, tenacity and fun-loving spirit inspired everyone she met. Doris is pre-deceased by her husband Roland G. Bernard, who passed away in 1991 after 49 years of marriage, her brothers Rene and Edward Beernaert and her sisters Irene Beernaert and Rachel Irene (Beernaert) O'Conner.Doris is survived by her five children: Donald Bernard and wife Sandra of New Boston, NH, Christine and husband Normand Chauvette of Goffstown, NH, Robert Bernard and wife Vicky of Manchester, NH. Patricia Paradis and husband David of Lincoln, NH, Roland Jr. and wife Priscilla of Chichester, NH, 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Yvette Beernaert of Bedford, NH and Laurette Morin of Safety Harbor, FL, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris will be missed by so many.Our family wants to thank all past and current staff at Bel-Air Nursing Home for their dignity, compassion, respect and dedication in taking care of our loving Mom. They will always be part of our family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bel Air Activities Fund, c/o Peggy Rollins, 29 Center St., Goffstown, NH 03045, or The Alzheimer's Association, One Bedford Farms Drive, Suite 105, Bedford, NH 03110.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jan. 25 at 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon with a service to follow at the Durning, Bykowski and Young Funeral Home, 285 Manchester St., corner of Beech St., Manchester. Private burial will take place on Monday, Jan. 28 at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
