Doris Dakoulas Obituary

MANCHESTER - Doris (Poirier) Dakoulas, 82, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Manchester on July 1, 1930, to Alphonse and Florida (Giguere) Poirier, Doris was raised and educated in local schools and graduated from Manchester High School Central .

As a teenager, she helped to support her family, sometimes working three jobs at a time. She worked for many years as a secretary for the former Hanover Insurance Company. In later years, she was employed as a legal secretary for several prominent law firms, often making their families her own.

Known affectionately to all as YiaYia, she devoted her life to caring for her family and others and selflessly put everyone's needs above her own. Her interests included reading, knitting, stopping at yard sales, traveling with her family and spending time with her best friend and sister-in-law, Mary Koukos.

Her endless energy, strength, work ethic, love of life and love for her family were an inspirational to all. She always saw the best in everyone. Her wonderful kindness and spirit will be greatly missed.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Family members include her seven children, Catherine Cowette, Christina Battistelli, Linda Johnson, Peter Dakoulas Jr., Cynthia Sheehan, all of Manchester, Stephen Dakoulas, of Florida and Roberta Dakoulas of Texas; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Poirier of Hooksett; a sister, Suzanne Dakoulas of Manchester; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter H. Dakoulas Sr., in 2007.

Sometimes God picks the flower that is still in full bloom; sometimes the rosebud's chosen that we feel He's picked too soon.

Sometimes the flower is fading with petals floating down, but God knows the perfect time to gather flowers from the ground.

There is a heavenly garden in which God takes great pleasure because He's placed within it the loved ones that we treasure.

He walks among the blossoms giving them eternal rest, and I know that it must please Him because He chose my very best.
