MANCHESTER -- Doris C. Richards, 73, died May 29, 2010, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Manchester on Oct. 21, 1936, to Lionel and Jeanette (Gelinas) Hamel. She was a lifelong resident of Manchester and was educated in the Manchester School District.
One of her early jobs was as a bookkeeper for local businesses.
She was employed by New England Telephone in Manchester as a customer service assistant. She later retired from Verizon in Andover, Mass. She also worked part time for Cumberland Farms for the past six years.
She enjoyed spending summers at her chalet in Gilmanton.
Family included sons Michael K. Richards, Steve A. Richards, Daniel E. Richards, Tom E. Richards and Joseph E. Richards, all of Manchester; daughters Christine A. Richards of Manchester and Mrs. Craig (Cynthia) P. Williams of Mount Vernon, Wash.; brother John Crotty of California; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
SERVICES: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Webster and Hemlock streets. Burial will follow in St. Augustin Cemetery, South Beech Street.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105-1942.
