Edward "Ed" Robert Sullivan, Jr., 80, of Manchester, NH passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, in the comfort of his daughter's home, surrounded by family.
Born in Clearwater, Florida, Ed was the son of the late Edward and Dorothy (Gobin) Sullivan. Following his father's honorable discharge from the United States Army, the family returned to their roots in New Hampshire, where Ed was raised and educated. In his early twenties, he moved to Massachusetts, where he met the love of his life, Faith (Molinari) Sullivan. They were married for 53 years until her passing on August 17, 2025. Ed and Faith made their home in Lowell and Dracut for many years before settling in Manchester, where they spent the past 31 years together.
Ed deeply appreciated the beauty and simplicity of New Hampshire, with a special fondness for Manchester. In conversation, he often shared how fortunate we are to live in or visit the area, praising its prime location and the natural advantage of the Merrimack River, which made the city's development both practical and enduring. During his career, Ed primarily worked in furniture sales, starting with Bigelow Furniture Store in Lowell and closing out his career with Furniture World in Salem, NH. He also proudly managed the package delivery company, American Messenger Service (AMS), for several years throughout the 1980s. Prior to retirement, Ed served as a shift manager at the New Horizons Shelter in Manchester.
Ed was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend, never without optimism or comic relief despite the circumstances. He loved spending time with his family and sharing his love of New England sports with his wife and children. Family and close friends knew Sundays were reserved for the Pats, with Ed always looking forward to the next football season only minutes after the previous season ended. Each morning, Ed enjoyed reading the newspaper and completing the crossword and sudoku puzzles. Passionate about puzzles and games, he loved games like Yahtzee and Monopoly, as well as cribbage and Oh Hell. Ed will be best remembered for his kind heart, sarcastic sense of humor, and love of family. Those who were closest to Ed knew him to always be "fine".
Ed is survived by his six children, Edward R. Sullivan III and his wife Sheila of Tennessee, Debbie Livengood and her husband James of North Carolina, David Sullivan and his wife Nancy Mcaneney of Pepperell, MA, Mike Cook and his wife Jackie of North Carolina, Lisa Carmichael and her husband Rich of Manchester, and Tara Ricci and her husband Bill of Manchester; his grandchildren, Haley, Jessie and Kendall Sullivan, Brandon and Chloe Rich, Tommy Rich and Cameron Ricci, Tommy Hart, Alyssa Vieira, Tyler Rains, Jessica Fielding, Amber and Brandon Livengood, Torrey Rose, Diana Leigh Couch and Michelle Perry; several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. In addition to his parents and his half-brother, Paul Provencher of Merrimack, Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife, Faith. Ed and Faith found comfort in their Catholic faith and were parishioners at St. Anthony of Padua in Manchester.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH on Saturday, September 13, from 10AM-11AM, followed by his Memorial Service at 11AM. Family and friends are invited to attend.
