On April 29, 1976 I received a call that my father had died in open heart surgery at a hospital in Houston, Texas. My mother and my sister were with him. They call me hysterical on the phone. I think I just sat there in shock holding the phone. My wife, Evelyn, arrived home and found me sitting on the bed (phone in hand). She called Gene Mehr (we were college roommates for 3 years). I would have to fly to Houston (via Atlanta), arrange for bringing my father home, and then flying back with my mother and sister (again through Atlanta). I needed to come up with some inner strength to accomplish this. Gene came right over and talked to me. I don't remember exactly what he said. However, I do remember he gave me is set of rosary beads to hold on to during this journey. I did come thought and accomplish all of the above. And, I always am thankful for Gene helping me to find the inner strength to do what I must do. Rest in peace good friend.

Most of my memories and past adventures from Villanova include you Gene. Throwing your wedding shoes in the trash bin was one of many. Rest in peace roomy! God bless

Gene was a lovely man. He would always make me laugh whenever we met. He was also very gifted in prayer ministry. He will be missed.
