Florian L. "Flo" Mathieu

1934 - 2023

Florian L. "Flo" Mathieu, 89, of Derry, NH, passed away Tuesday December 26, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 28, 1934 in Gaspe, Quebec, Canada, a son of the late George and Rosemarie (Lessard) Mathieu. Florian was raised and educated in Canada. He met the love of his life, Juliette, when they were just 15 years old and they were married a few years later. They moved to Lawrence, MA in 1961 with 4 young children. They built the lives they dreamed of in the states where they had 2 more children. In 1989, they moved to Derry, NH. He and his wife enjoyed spending summers in their camper at Salisbury State Park where he worked part time after their retirement and wintering at their home in Zephyrhills, FL. Flo worked as a carpenter for the Carpenters Union Local #33 in Boston, MA for over 50 years. He was a hard-working proud man with an incredibly silly sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He was a devout Catholic and a man of deep faith. He enjoyed attending daily mass and saying the rosary every morning with his wife. Together, they also enjoyed, traveling, golf, dancing the jitterbug, playing cards, watching Red Sox games, spending time with family and friends, and their annual trips to Vegas. He loved gardening in the summer. His family and friends will remember him for his love for family, his silly sense of humor and all the laughs they had with him, and his ability to fix just about anything.

He is survived by his six children, Andre Mathieu and wife Chrissie of Worcester, MA, Daniel Mathieu and wife Sharon of Methuen, MA, Michael Mathieu and wife Gretchen of Weare, NH, Johanne LaPlante of Summerfield, FL, Carole DeBidart and husband George of Euless, TX and Michelle King and husband Scott of Derry; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 6 step-grandchildren; one sister, Claudette Pelletier, Sherbrooke, Canada, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 71 years, Juliette M. "Julie" Mathieu on December 18, 2023, only 8 days prior.

All services will be held jointly for Florian and Julie. Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Friday January 5th, 2024 from 4 - 6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry.
