George Polichronopoulos Obituary

George J. Polichronopoulos, Jr. (1941-2023)

A gentle family man that once was a familiar local craftsman making Shaker style brooms at many local Farmers Markets, Town events and at the Shaker Village in Canterbury, NH. George J. Polichronopoulos, Jr., 82, of Madbury, NH died suddenly at home of natural causes on October 17, 2023.

He is survived by many loving individuals, including his wife of 64 years Priscilla, their son Joel and his wife Christine, brother James, Grandchildren Brie and Ben, Great-grandchildren Mekhi, Theo and Myla, and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was born in Manchester, NH in 1941and attended Central High School where he met Priscilla and got married in 1959. After High School, George entered the Air National Guard, then was employed at the Manchester VA Hospital before he started his career working as a civilian for the United States Air Force Morale, Welfare and Recreation Division. George Retired in 1990 with 31 years of government service. The most memorable USAF workstation; was a two-year work tour from 1983-1985 to Incirlik AB in Turkey. He and Priscilla made many memories, friends, and brought home some delicious Turkish food recipes.

In his retirement years, George enjoyed a good smoke of either his pipe or cigar in his barn with his chickens, sheep, Wilber the pig, and some bunnies donated by the grandkids. The barn was his workshop for creating and assembling his Shaker style brooms. After the smoking stopped and the animals were too much, George still very much enjoyed his barn by relaxing in his chair, drinking a diet soda or two listening to birds and watching the creatures scurry about.

Our family is grateful to know that George, Dad, Chief, Popup, Gogo is at peace.

A small family gathering will be held at a later time to spread his ashes.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Madbury NH public library: [email protected]

Priscilla and family; I have many fond memories of "Gogo" and Roger during my little league days in Manchester. I also remember a trip to the beach with you and Gogo in the convertible he had just purchased. We all returned home with a sunburn to beat the band. I was saddened to hear of his passing and I will keep you all in my prayers. Don Manoly

"Goo Goo", as my dad would refer to him, always had a way of brightening any room he entered with his humor, friendliness, and good nature. I will always remember the visits to the barn, being introduced to "Rotten Ralph" the family poodle, and all the funny stories he and my father would share about their high school days. Very sad to hear of his passing, but happy to say I have nothing but fond memories to speak about my dad's best high school friend. My deepest sympathies and condolences to Priscilla and family during this difficult time of loss.
