Gertrude Spanos Obituary

Gertrude C. "Trudy" (Marchand) Spanos, age 82, of Lincoln, NH, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. For 28 years, she shared her life with her late husband, James P. Spanos, until his passing in 1993.

Born in Lowell on October 10, 1942, Trudy was the daughter of the late Romeo and Alice (Makos) Marchand. She grew up in Lowell and attended Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Grammar School before graduating from Lowell High School.

Trudy had a diverse career. She worked for the IRS in Andover and later owned and operated a real estate business alongside her husband in Lowell for several years. After relocating to Lincoln, NH, they owned and operated the Mountaineer Motel with their family for many years.

Trudy was a vibrant and active person. She loved traveling, movies, live entertainment events, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking and cherished the time she spent being "Yiayia" to her grandchildren.

Trudy is survived by her four children: Jim Spanos and his longtime companion, Sandra Catania; George Spanos and his wife, Jayne of Lincoln, NH; Lisa Blanchette and her husband, Bob of Bow, NH and Crissy Ouellette and her husband, Jason of Manchester, NH and his son Iain Ouellette of Clinton, MA. She also leaves four grandchildren, Dimitri and Nicholas Spanos and Alice and Calvin Ouellette. She also loved Sandra's two grandchildren Covu and Sapphire like her own. Trudy's family also includes her brother, Robert Marchand, and his wife, Carol (Barnes) of Lowell, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Paul Marchand, and sister-in-law, Barbara (Rafferty) Marchand of Dracut.

Trudy's family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at the M. R. Laurin & Son Funeral Home, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Thursday, March 27th, from 4 to 6 pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10 am at St. Rita's Church, 158 Mammoth Rd., Lowell. Interment at Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org/donate or to Smile Train at www.smiletrain.org/donate.
