James McGeough Obituary

EPPING - James P. McGeough IV entered eternal peace on June 28, 2016 in Exeter, NH, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was born in New York City on June 28, 1948 to James P. McGeough III and Shirley (Lincoln) McGeough. He attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice and graduated from the New York Institute of Technology. He served in the New York City Police Department, and on several special operational and tactical task forces. After being wounded in the line of duty, Jim retired from police work and moved to New Hampshire where he earned his Master's Degree in Education and taught mathematics at Manchester High School West for twenty years. He married Susan Vallone in 1997, and together they built and operated White Gate Farm in Epping, a joy for both of them, where they hosted family weddings and community gatherings.

Jim was deeply involved in community service both at work and in Epping. He served as National Honor Society advisor at Manchester West, the NH State NHS Advisor and was a board member on the national organization in Washington, DC. He served on the Epping Conservation Commission, Budget Committee, and Board of Selectmen. He led an effort to refurbish the Epping Town Hall and improve the town's television facility. The new Epping TV studio was dedicated to him in March, and named the "James P. McGeough Studios of ETV."

Jim was also a member of the Maj. Gen. John Sullivan Masonic Lodge and a communicant at St. Joseph Church in Epping. Known for his poker face and quick wit, Jim was blessed with wonderful neighbors and dear friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Susan McGeough and his brother, Glenn of Danbury, Connecticut. He will be forever remembered by his cherished stepsons: Ryan Joyce and his wife Erin, and Patrick Joyce and his wife Katie, and adored grandchildren Andrew and Regina. He also leaves behind Susan's mother, Marguerite Vallone, and brother, Mark Vallone and his wife Chris, and their sons, Matt and his wife Jennifer, and Dan and his wife Allison, whom he viewed with both love and pride. Jim will be greatly missed by family and friends.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brewitt Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant Street, Epping. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 200 Pleasant St., Epping, on Wednesday, July 6 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the James P. McGeough Memorial Fund, c/o TD Bank, 16 Fresh River Road, Epping, NH 03042. The fund will be used to beautify the Epping Town Hall and grounds.

Our deepest condolences, Susan. We know it was a long, tough fight, but clearly an amazing and brave effort that few can contend with. Peace to you and your family.

I met Jim at a few farmer's markets where he represented White Gate Farm. I remember once we had quite the discussion about Seckel pears (when I bought every single one he had!). He was kindly and generous, and will be greatly missed.

You were the best teacher I had. Truly a good person. You looked beyond my grades when I was struggling, and saw me as a person. I'll never forget you. You will be that one teacher who made math so much better. I'm so honored to have had the chance to work with you. Rest easy, may you be happy, pain free, and fly amongst the Angels.

Thank you for having a positive impact on my boys lives. Be it in the classroom, at NHS meetings or white water rafting, my boys appreciated your support, knowledge and sense of humor. You made a difference and will not be forgotten. Our sympathy to your family and may you rest in peace.
