John Jamrog Obituary

John Joseph Jamrog Jr. 83, passed away on June 16, 2024, after a period of declining health. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester NH. Born on September 18, 1940 to the late Helen Bartula Jamrog and John Joseph Jamrog Sr.

John graduated from Central High School (1956). He then enlisted in the Airforce where he served for (4) years.

Before finally retiring at (80), he worked for General Linen & Uniform Services for 25+ years as their top sales representative. In addition, he spent several years as a sales associate for various furniture stores. John loved the sales industry and talking with people.

For fun, John loved to fish, play cards and solve crossword puzzles. He missed his calling however, as a standup comedian, with his quick wit, sense of humor and one liners.

Joel, Lisa & Aaron would like to thank the staff at Mt. Carmel Nursing and Rehab Center for their kind/compassionate care they provided John during his stay.

He is survived by his sons, Joel Jamrog and John Aaron Hoffman, daughter, Lisa Bourgeois (Ron) and (4) grandsons, Ryan and Tyler Bourgeois, Tyler King and Peyton Hoffman.

John's funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 25th @ 10AM at St. Hedwig's Church, corner of Beech and Orange St., Manchester, NH.

The family will receive friends/family at the church from 9:30am to 10:00am.

A private burial will take place at St. Hedwig's Cemetery

I was hired at General Linen in 2010 to take over the Sales Team. I was told I was going to lead a team of young inexperienced sales reps and some well seasoned unorthodox veterans. I was told the team as a whole were underperforming and needed leadership. Like most leaders I decided to call a meeting on my first day. I read a book by Vince Lombardi called "Commitment to Excellence " and I was going to barge into the sales meeting and give my Vince Lombardi speech..... I was going to say "all eyes on me!!!!! We will be successful as a sales team this year if we focus on three things..... Your Family......Your Religion..... and General Linen!!!!! And I thought that would fire them up!!´ Before I got to the door I was approach by an older gentleman.... He had to be my dad´s age.... He stuck out his hand and said "you must be our new manager... I´m John Jamrog, you can call me "The Jester". I hope you´re not planning on going in that room barking out a bunch of sales Mumbo Jumbo lines hoping to win us over..... it won´t work. I know these guys. We need a manager who represents the sales team to the owners... not represent the owners to the sales team. If you can do that... we´ll sell for you!" I scrapped my Lombardi speech!!! I told the team I was different than any manger they ever had.... I had their backs first and we would figure it out together! I rolled out a new pay plan with quarterly and year end bonuses. I told them 4 days a week I would spend time in the field and work with them side by side. I chose Jester to ride with first. He said "I don´t need you with me!!!" I told him I just wanted to observe. He said "OK". We worked the field doing cold calls.... John was gruff, unorthodox, and had no set speech memorized about the company or how the features and benefits of the General Linen service was going to benefit their needs!!! What I saw was a guy who connected with people on a personal level. He listed to the problems they had and he provided a solution. He shook everyone´s hand at the end of each meeting gave them his personal cell number!!!! (Who gives out their personal number!!!!) and he´d say "that´s my personal number!! You can call me 24/7.... I may not answer, but I will get back to right away and have a solution for you!!! No red tape!! People taking care of people!!! That´s what you get if you sign up with me!!!! We signed up 3 accounts by 1:30 and he kicked me out of his car!!! Jester said "not a bad day.... I´m kinda tired and pointing to his feet he said "my dogs are barking" I´m going home to take a nap". That was John!! Get out in the field early, sign a few accounts and head home. Weeks later at the sales meeting I highlighted each person who hit the quarterly sales goal. Jester was number 1... I handed each person a "live" check for their accomplishments. Jester loudly in the meeting said "What is this??? What is this check for??? I said "It´s a bonus for exceeding your sales number". He laughed and said "you got the company to pay us extra for doing our jobs!!!!! "I´ve worked her almost 20 years and have never gotten one of these before!!! I can work for you kid!!" He worked for me 8 years!!! I can´t print most of the stuff we laughed about in our time together riding in the car.... But I can tell you he knew how to treat people and his family meant everything to him. You will be missed Jester!!!

I worked with John at Longo's Mammoth Mills Furniture over 37 years ago; he was such a sweet and funny man! I remember him fondly! I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Sounds like he kept on working, and surely kept his co-workers and customers in stitches. May he rest in peace....my sympathies to the family
