John Nutter Obituary

John Frederic Nutter, formerly of Bedford, died, of natural causes on November 10, 2021, at the age of 96 in Rye.

Born August 11, 1925 in Pittsfield, NH, he was the son of Fred and Maud Nutter. John grew up in Pittsfield and on November 16, 1942, during his junior year at Pittsfield High School, he enlisted in the US Navy and became a World War II Veteran. He married Ada May Emerson, daughter of Luther and May (Muchmore) Emerson on February 15, 1944. After the war they returned to Pittsfield and John was awarded a "War Diploma" from Pittsfield High School.

They soon moved to Laconia where he worked for Scott & Williams. In 1948, they returned to Pittsfield and John went to work for A. Perley Fitch Company in Concord. When the company moved to Manchester in 1950, he and his family moved to Bedford. John progressed with the company from Salesman to General Manager. In 1967, Fitch was acquired by Gilman Brothers where John became President and CEO.

In 1983, John left Gilman Brothers to found TotalMed Leasing and Sales. The company eventually became the leading distributor of medical supplies and equipment to long-term healthcare facilities throughout New England. In 1998, the business was sold. During that time, he established a real estate firm (Two Wheels Realty), in partnership, which deals in commercial and residential properties. Later he became sole owner.

In John's younger days he enjoyed golfing and skiing. Former member of the Manchester Country Club, where he served as a director for six years and president for two. He is a past director of NH Cancer Society and was their national delegate for two years. John was a life member of the 100 Club of NH and was a member of the Peterson-Cram Post #75 of the American Legion in Pittsfield for over 70 years. Before his death he was the oldest surviving WWII Veteran from Pittsfield, NH.

Ada passed away on January 21, 2005 in Valrico, Florida. John is survived by his 3 children. His daughter Judy Corchiarino and son-in-law John Corchiarino of Grasonville, MD., and his sons Alan of Naples, FL and Gary and daughter-in-law Joan Nutter of Jacksonville, FL. He had eight grandchildren: Julie Peters, Corrie and Christopher Corchiarino, Kenneth, Kyle, Jonathan, Jake, and Alexander Nutter. Great grandchildren include Casey Brown, Isabella, Ellie and Giuliana Corchiarino and Emerson Rose McWilliams. John was preceded in death by his sisters Evelyn Jagger, Pauline Haines and Frances George.

At the time of his death, he was a resident of Webster at Rye in Rye, NH. A graveside service will be held next year at the Bedford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Pittsfield NH Historical Society, PO Box 173 Pittsfield, NH 03263. Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements. My Sincere condolences goes out to all of John's family. I met John at the Airport Diner, he was my regular customer for years, I was his favorite not to brag. It was truly sad for me to have to say goodbye to John when I ended up leaving the diner after 10+ years of serving him! He was a very sweet man with a tough shell to break threw! I'm glad to have met him and beable to share parts of my life with him! Rest easy John you will be missed!

We first met in 2009. You had an infectious laugh, silly jokes and very clear to see, a kind heart. Thank you for the years of goodness you brought at every visit. I will miss you greatly. Condolences to your family and friends. You are very missed.

Loved this man for many decades! Always the grumpy old man on the outside with a heart of gold.

Our best year was over 50 years ago when he won the Member/ Guest Tournament at Manchester Country Club. I've had the pleasure of reminding him for 50 years that he had an awesome caddy (me)!

I miss the old guy coming in the drugstore, seeing me (as the pharmacist) and asking why there's no pharmacist on duty.

Rest in peace John and may God Bless because you deserve His reception in paradise.
