Kathleen Tangney Obituary

Kathleen Marie "Kathy" Tangney (formerly Kathleen Dow), age 73, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, with her family and her cat, Magic, in her home in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Kathy was on born on March 26, 1952, in Boston, MA. She was the first of eight children born to Robert and Lorraine Tangney. She grew up in Milton, MA. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Lorraine and siblings, David, Michael and Marie.

Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her children: Eric and Dana Dow; Lindsay and Mike Goff; Gregory Dow and Heather Smith. Kathy was full of never ending support for her children. She was called Nana by her grandchildren: Bradley and Jody Dow; Cailin Goff; and Ryan Goff. Kathy had a special relationship with her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking them ice skating, swimming or to Livingston Park. She was the kind of Nana that would let them play hooky to take them fishing or let them do "Dirty Madlibs" on her porch!

Kathy raised her children in Weare, NH before moving to Manchester, NH to be closer to the art community.

Kathy attended Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Art Education. Kathy loved her years as a substitute teacher and as an art teacher. Kathy was a gifted artist who used watercolors, sewing, jewelry making, drawing, murals, mosaics, and stained glass, to express herself. She was also a passionate gardener and she enjoyed morning walks through her neighborhood.

Kathy is survived by her loving sisters Brenda Tangney; Ann Fraser; Carol Briscoe and their families, as well as her brother, Robert Tangney and many cousins, nieces and nephews, who will remember her fun personality. She also spent a lot of time at her family's cottage over the years.

One of Kathy's proudest moments was when she sent her 'Rose Peacock' jacket design to Chico's clothing, resulting in a $75,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Manchester, NH, in Kathy's honor.

Kathy was certified in and practiced Tong Ren Healing for many years. She really valued being a part of the Tong Ren Healing community.

Kathy was a lover of life and a free, creative spirit. She had many special life-long friendships and those friends and neighbors will miss her dearly. Her life was full of adventure, creativity, laughter and love. We are devastated by this enormous loss, but we are glad that she is at peace.

Kathy's family would like to thank the staff at Granite VNA for all the care she received. Thanks to her family and many special friends, it was possible to allow Kathy to remain at her home, her sanctuary.

Our mother chose to donate her body to science through the UMass Chan Medical School's Anatomical Gift Program, so her body will used for teaching. We will be planning to have a Celebration of Life at a later date.

Please continue to honor Kathy's memory by thinking of her often and enjoying the beauty that surrounds us.

Kathy had such a free spirit! I'm sure she is celebrating now. As should we all who had the sheer pleasure of knowing her. Her life was a work if art.
