Kenwood Jones Obituary

Kenwood "Woody" C. Jones Jr. passed away May 24, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Woody's positive outlook and passion for life were hallmarks as he fought this progressive disease.

He was born in Keene, NH on September 2, 1947, the son of Kenwood C. Jones Sr. and Jay (Derby) Jones. Woody went to primary school in Keene and graduated from Central High School in Manchester, NH. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1966 and served during the Vietnam War for four years. Upon his honorable discharge as a sergeant in 1970, he began his career in the ski industry working for his father's business, Ken Jones Ski Shop, in Nashua, NH. It was here that he refined and lived his love of "everything ski related." The business flourished over the years and received multiple industry "Best Ski Shop" awards along the way. Woody stepped away from the business in the early 2000's, allowing he and his wife, Linda, to enjoy many sunsets and fun-filled years sailing their boat throughout the British Virgin Islands.

Woody's competitive spirit and love for the outdoors were always on display. Whether skiing his favorite "home" mountain, Cannon, or anywhere else, playing tennis, boating on Lake Winnipesaukee or in the BVI, or driving one of his convertible sport cars, Woody's smile said it all. He was always ready for the next adventure.

For the last several years Linda and Woody received immense support from Linda's sister and brother-in-law Kathie and John Crockwell, as well as, dear friend Larry Younger. Their efforts and love were immeasurable. Woody leaves behind his loving and supportive wife of twenty-seven years, Linda Carman Jones, his sister, Alison Jones, two nephews, Dylan and Ben Hall and their families. He was predeceased by his father Ken, Sr in 2013 and his mother Jay in 1997.

Woody was such a great guy. He lived an ever encompassing life and he had a gusto to enjoy it. When I met Woody through Linda and other mutual friends, I was aware of a love of life from that guy. Woody was always ready to do stuff, whether it was sailing, windsurfing, jet-skiing, winter/helicopter skiing, driving his sports car, concert going, landscaping his property or just hanging out with friends, he was an active guy.
Linda and Woody lived an exceptional life together. Luckily, I was inclined in their wide circle of friends. We had fun together on Lake Winnipesaukkee in the 80´s & 90´s, I was part of their wedding party at the New Hampshire BVI (Bedford. Village Inn) in `96 and sailed many times with them in the Caribbean BVI on their boat the Inside Edge. In fact, we were together in the BVI in 2003 with a dozen other fellow Cannon Mtn skiing friends when news arrived that the Old Man in the Mountain fell. That was an unforgettable moment for us NH people.
For the last 20 years, Woody, Linda, my partner Eric and I continued to have wonderful times together. Woody will be missed by all the lives that he touched.
He put his vitality for life into everything he faced. He lived a frenetic life always on the Inside Edge!

I shall always remember Woody, and the many visits to Ski Mart and Ken Jones Ski Shop in Manchester. Enjoyed skiing with Woody at Cannon Mountain where he offered me tips to help my skiing. Needless to say, I am still working to improve, and will plan to do my best Woody European style ski run at Cannon next year. Thank you, Woody for all your ski recommendations, and ski instructions through the years.

I first met Woody, or Mr. Jones as I called him, when I was 14. He needed some help with yard chores, and I was ready to work. Little did I know that I was not only starting a part time job, but more importantly, a friendship, one that I will treasure forever. Over the years we grew close over our shared hobbies such as model building, skiing, rock music, and video games. We grew closer through my high school and college years, and even when life got busy, he was always a priority to me. He taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and the drive to fight and never give up.
I would consider him a best friend, as we not only worked together, but we shared meals together, played video games together, built models together. I will miss him, and treasure the time we had deep in my heart forever.
P.S. - when you let me drive the Corvette to Goldenrod I thought I was on Cloud 9

The first time I met Woody was At Sunapee I was in the junior race program and he was in the senior race program and I was sitting at a table in the cafeteria across from him and he said hello to me and ask how my racing was going and said not to well because I fell and than his dad came over to the table and said I am Woodys dad and I guess you have met a new friend and handed us both a baby Ruth and said that´s lunch
