NASHUA -- Lois Ruth Saipe, 90, of Nashua, formerly of Boca Raton, Fla., and Stoneham, Mass., died April 2, 2008, in Boston.
Born in Winchester, she was the daughter of the late Augustus V. and Jeanette G. (Monk) Barwood.
She was raised in Stoneham and attended Tufts University, majoring in English and drama. She married Lester Saipe of Chelsea, and they made their home in Stoneham.
Mrs. Saipe was involved in the Quannapowitt Players, the well-respected community theater group formerly in Wakefield, now in Reading, Mass. She was the star of many productions, including "The Philadelphia Story" and "Blithe Spirit."
Mrs. Saipe was also a research assistant at Tufts Psychology Department and became an avid volunteer for Brandeis University's Women's Association.
She was an avid golfer and cherished and respected the beauty of nature. Mrs. Saipe spent most of her life at the seashore, first at her family's home in Nahant, Mass., as a child, and in later years, she summered in Gloucester, surrounded by her loving extended family.
She was a generous, loving and compassionate soul who had an enthusiastic zest for life and delighted in the simple beauty of every day.
Mrs. Saipe was a cultured woman who appreciated fine music, theater and the arts, and was a culinary maven who took great pride in making every meal special.
She was predeceased by her husband.
The family includes three daughters, Lee Sevilla of Nashua, Robin Saipe of Gloucester and Barbara Saipe of Sebastopol, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Because of you I took the Hebrew name, Ruth. I will look back on my teens and be forever grateful that you influenced my life in a very special and spitual way. So long Lois, my friend and "High School Mom".
