Stephen and Patricia, I'm so sorry to hear of Marie's passing. I assisted you all with Marie's transition from home to The Meetinghouse. I will forever remember Marie's smile! Due to various life events, Marie "lost her smile". Months went by before I saw that smile......once I did, I knew she was "back on track". God bless

Dr. Metoyer and her family are Jersey City Royalty. They broke the barriers of the day, an esteemed and brilliant African American family. The family was a much-respected household name in my family. My mother worked at the Margaret Hague Hospital for 36 years and knew the family well. We lived right around the corner from them in Jersey City and attended All Saints school and parish. Mom would take me to see her when I was sick. Dr. Edwards was our Dentist and Dr. Lena a legend. Rest in peace and thoughts and prayers to the family.

While living in Jersey City, NJ, Dr. Metoyer was my pediatrician and the mother of one of my elementary school classmates, Cecile. Consequently, I have many memories of her wonderful medical care. I also recall how nurturing she was to her own family and friends.
However, I feel that I would be remiss if I didn't mention what a great role model she was. My own mother (who was also a force of nature) would often tell me to observe Dr. Metoyer as an example of what could be possible as a professional, as a parent, and as a religious layperson. I took my mother's advice to heart and did pay attention for many years. Although Dr. Metoyer and her family left our riot-torn city by the late 1960s, I've always remembered her. With the inspiration of my mother and Dr. Metoyer, I went on to complete high school, college, and graduate school and have a successful career as a Personnel Psychologist/Training Researcher while also raising a daughter with my husband.
Both my mother and Dr. Metoyer died this Spring and will be sorely missed. Nevertheless, I know that their legacies of strength combined with kindness will remain as a blessed inspiration to the loved ones that they have left behind.

I met Marie during my employment at the Meetinghouse as the prior activities director. She was very a gracious woman with many amazing life accomplishments. It was a pleasure spending time with her. She will be greatly missed. My condolences to her family and friends.

Dear Victor and Family, Like Miriam, I never had the honor of meeting your Mom, but feel like I know her through Victor's stories about her life and her extraordinary devotion and contributions to her family, community and country. I know that her loss will be really difficult to assimilate given the magnitude of what she has meant to you. But I hope the profound legacy she leaves, both on a professional and a personal basis, gives you some solace in the days and years ahead. With admiration and love and hugs to all, Susan Rothschild
