Maureen Karr Obituary

Maureen E. Karr, 83, of York, ME, and Jaffrey, NH, passed away peacefully at the St. Teresa Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Manchester NH on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

She was born on August 9, 1941, in New York City, daughter of the late Edward J. and Elizabeth (McCloskey) Duffy.

A graduate of Carmel High School in 1959, Maureen continued her journey in education at the West Chester School of Nursing, where she completed her nursing degree in 1962. With a deep-seated passion for helping others, she dedicated her career to the nursing profession, touching the lives of countless individuals with her kindness and expertise. In pursuit of further knowledge, Maureen attained her bachelor's degree in psychology from New England University, which enriched her understanding of the human experience and enhanced her contributions to her field.

Maureen's professional career as a dedicated nurse spanned several decades and exhibited her deep compassion for others. After completing her studies, she spent ten years serving with the visiting nurses in Manchester, New Hampshire, where she touched countless lives with her kindness and expert care. Following this period, she took on the role of nursing recruiter at Rivier College in Nashua, helping to inspire the next generation of nurses. She later devoted her talents to working with New Hampshire Catholic Charities, where her dedication to service continued to shine.

Outside of her career, she thoroughly enjoyed theater, often finding comfort and joy in the arts. Golf, too, was a cherished pastime, providing her with countless hours of enjoyment and camaraderie. Continuing along her nursing passion, she volunteered at the York Hospital for many years. Maureen had many friends in the Bedford, NH, Goffstown, NH, Jaffrey, NH, and York, ME, areas where she lived over the last 55 years. She was very active in the Fellowship and the Catholic Faith community in all the places she lived.

In addition to her parents, Maureen is predeceased by her brother, Edward Duffy of Poughkeepsie, NY.

Maureen is survived by her sons, James H. Karr III of Hampton, NH, and Edward Karr of Geneva, Switzerland. Her grandchildren, James H. Karr IV (Harry) and Sofia Karr will always remember her.

Maureen is remembered fondly by all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of empathy, strength, and dedication. Her impact on the lives she encountered will remain in the hearts of those she served, ensuring that her memory lives on as a beacon of compassion.

Family and friends are warmly invited to calling hours, which will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 8:00AM - 9:30AM in the Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River Street, Jaffrey. Immediately following calling hours a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey.

Her burial will take place following Mass at St. Patrick Cemetery, Hillcrest Road, Jaffrey, NH, 03452.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen's memory to New Hampshire Catholic Charities, located at 100 William Loeb Dr. Unit 3, Manchester, NH 03109.

I met Maureen through St. Patrick's Church. We shared a room together when we went to Medjugorje 14 years ago. It is with a heavy heart that I learned of her passing. My condolences to her family.

Maureen was a friend to all who met her. Her strength, sense of humor, kindness and positive spirit always impressed me when I was working at York Housing where Maureen lived for many years. She participated often in the weekly yoga classes I taught there. She will be missed by many, many friends and family. Love and peace be with you, Maureen, on your journey home.
