May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
Neal was a wonder teacher. He had a way of using humor to help us remember what would happen if we violated the real estate rules and regulations. He is missed my many, myself included. I am thankful for his teachings. God bless you all. May your hearts heal with time, and laughter come from your memories.

Neal was a swell guy. Neal was a first rate debater and I had the pleasure of doing Model UN --High School edition---up at Plymouth State with Neal. We both ended up at UNH in the same dorm. He exuded compassionate cynicism--sharp wit and a soft smile. Long after college we stayed in touch...until the recent past. Neal lives on in spunky spirit. Be Strong and Be Well Barretts and Dede.

To the Barrett Family, Dede, and all of Neal's friends:
I had the privilege of being Neal's friend since we met at UNH in 1984 when he greeted me as a volunteer helping international students like myself feel at home. I still remember the August day we met. He was wise beyond his 20 years then, had spent time in Russia, spoke Russian and planned to work in related political arenas during that period of the Cold War. He was one of the kindest, most helpful people I knew, and there was no noble cause he would not support. I used to wonder how he found the time to do so many things. We became good friends and stayed in touch after he moved to study in Virginia.
As our respective work made us neighbors in Nashua in 1988-1989, we hung out almost on a daily basis, and a lot of yarns can be spun from those days. Time flew by, I got married, my wife and I moved to California at the end of 1991. He made it out to visit in 1995, and I managed to visit and see him in 2004 and most recently in 2014. Time and distance, and vastly differing career areas, did not dent our friendship. We picked up the threads without a hitch every time we spoke or met. I just wish it had been more often. I always thought there would be another time, I always thought I could bring my sons over to meet him. They know enough of him from all the stories I have told them.
To this day I think of him as a younger brother. I cannot believe he is gone. I have myself witnessed how many lives he touched on a daily basis, his natural kindness and compassion, his ready wit and humor, his breadth of knowledge and appetite to know more.
I know Neal lives on in the memories of the countless friends whose lives he brightened. Definitely his flame still burns in this corner of California.
RIP my dear friend.

Dear Barrett Family, including DeDe; I am heart sick Neal's passing; such a wonderful person, intelligent with a quick humor and so very kind; never saw him angry or heard him be difficult; when I returned to RE, it was Neal and Jim that encouraged me with their go to attitude and warm, sensitive manner. Very difficult to believe Neal will not be teaching another class - who does it better? Will miss seeing and chatting with Neal very much. My deepest condolences to his family......

Not sure what to say. My sincere condolences to the Barrett family. Neal and I go back 27 years when he was a spunky 25 year old GAD for the Greater Nashua Board of Realtors. I liked Neal greatly and I will miss him more. Neal was the go-to voice of reason on many levels. Loved his humor and his intellect. I just can't say enough good about Neal. This great guy and I met for an extended lunch just the week prior. Why? Because I needed to pick his brain again about process and procedure and he needed to pick my brain on how to optimize his new Blackberry. We have lost a wonderful person and I am deeply saddened. Rest now my friend.

My condolences to the Barrett family. Neal will be sorely missed because of his many contributions to his community and to the Realtor organization. I had the opportunity to be in his Core class many times and he had a way of teaching the dull, boring updates with a wonderful,quick-witted sense of humor. I always walked away from his classed with the knowledge that I needed. A true loss to all who were connected to him in any way.
