Nicholas Samaras Obituary

Dr. Nicholas G. Samaras (Nick), 95, of Atkinson, New Hampshire and Pine Point, Maine, formerly of Haverhill, MA, passed away on Sunday, August 19, at his home in Pine Point.

He was born in Haverhill on April 8, 1923, the son of the late George N. and Marianthe (Kitsis) Samaras.

Dr. Samaras was educated in the Haverhill school system and graduated from Haverhill High School in 1941. He attended the University of Rhode Island prior to serving in the army during WWII. He then continued his education earning his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of Pennsylvania, and completed his residency in oral surgery at the Mass Memorial Hospital in Boston. For over thirty years, he was an oral surgeon in Haverhill. He loved his dental practice, his dental colleagues, the people with whom he worked and all of his patients.

Outside of work, Nick enjoyed golf, skiing, tennis and spending time with his friends. Most of all, he treasured being with his family, especially at his summer home in Pine Point, Maine. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Calliope B. Samaras. He leaves a son, George Nicholas and wife Doris Samaras, and four daughters, Triada Samaras, Mari Anthe and husband R. Charles White, Valessia Samaras and husband Jeff McQuate, Thea and husband George Norman Valvanis. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, R. Charles, Jr. and wife Aislinn White, George Norman and wife Sarah Valvanis, Kalliope Rodes White, Nicholas Tilem Valvanis, Liam Veuve, James Thomas White and wife Kaitlyn Payne, Maria Valessia Valvanis and husband Robert Dello Russo, Leopold Nicholas Veuve, William John Valvanis, Alec Samaras White, Nicholas George Samaras, Kristoffer Nelson Samaras, Caroline Calliope Samaras, and 2 great-granddaughters, Kalliope Anne White and Olivia Mary Valvanis. He also leaves many cousins, including two first cousins, Nicoletta Pappas and Artemis Paras, and numerous others in Greece.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service for Nick at the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter Street, Haverhill MA, on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., followed by his burial at Linwood Cemetery. At his request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dental Assistant Program at Northern Essex Community College (NECC Foundation, 100 Elliott Street, Haverhill MA 01830, attn: Jean Poth) or the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 154-156 Winter Street, Haverhill MA 01830. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill & Bradford.
