Oscar Durand Obituary

Oscar Armand Durand Jr. died July 1, 2021 after a battle with a lengthy illness.

Born in Manchester, NH on May 28, 1936. He was the son of Oscar A Durand Sr and Rachel (Guaevinne) Durand. Oscar was educated in the local school system.

Prior to retirement he worked for a short time for the Manchester fire department before pursuing his art full-time in which he was a self-employed Master Artist. Oscar's spark of talent was first ignited at the age of 14 during a visit to the Currier Art Gallery in Manchester New Hampshire. That is when Oscar experienced an awakening of his god-given talent upon viewing an original moody and luminescent landscape by Rembrandt.

When Oscar wasn't painting in his home-based studio, he enjoyed an array of hobbies and outdoor activities. Oscar enjoyed hiking the steepest mountains and skiing down fast Black diamond trails. If it wasn't raining or snowing Oscar was out riding with the love of his life Carol on his Harley-Davidson named "Windy" (that has a custom paint job done by his good friend Paul Fitzgerald). Often Oscar would be seen riding along with his two daughters Catherine and Lisa and his son Kevin who shared the same immense love of riding. He also enjoyed his walks around Dorr's pond with his daughter Susan and at other times with his long time best friend Bill Blanchett.

Oscar would frequently dine at the Puritan Backroom Restaurant with his family and reminisce about the good old days over a Manhattan and a plate of haddock au gratin.

Oscar is survived by his wife Carol I (Gagnon) Durand; his two sisters, Vivian and husband Conrad Moran, Elaine and husband Robert Lachance; His five beautiful children, Catherine and her husband Eric Applegate, Kevin Durand and his wife Kristy, Lisa Butler, Susan Donahue and Lori Durand; his three grandchildren, Catherine Durand, Charles Butler and Joey Sullivan and his three furry companions Froto (his 5am morning coffee pal), Muffin whom he rescued, (his evening news buddy) and Whiskey (his bedtime cuddle bug). Oscar was dearly loved by NUMEROUS family and friends across the country.

Honoring Oscar's wishes a private memorial service will be held at a later date with family and close friends. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 166 South River Rd., Bedford, NH 03110.

I rode for you today Dad. I could still see you and Mom riding in front of me on "Windy". Oh how I wish you were still there. I looked up to the sky and wondered if you could see me. My heart is so broken Dad. I have never felt a loss like this before. How am I supposed to go on in this world without you. Don't worry Dad, I will do my very best to take care of Mom for you. Thank you so very much for always being there for me and our entire family. You always put us first, no matter what came up in our lives. I love you with all of my heart and soul Dad. I will hold all of my precious memories of you in my heart until we meet again. Your loving daughter, Cathy

I love you Dad and will miss you forever. I will miss riding with you and Mom but will always ride following you're path. You were always my strength and will always find strength in you through the rest of my life. Thank you Dad for the beautiful gift, original painting of Warrior in my living room after he passed. You hung on my wall for me. I will never forget holding your hand and kissing you in your last hour. I will see you in my dreams and ride for you and mom from here on. We'll always be together in spirit. I love you Dad

Our thoughts and prayers are for you all. I have very fond memories of Uncle Ossie.

Oscar ! Wow what a run from our hiking adventures in the Whites to skiing every trail at Loon. Stories of your exploits on the slope. On the ride home, don't tell Carol about an encounter with a Loon Mtn. tree. But in the end Carol always got the story. O

Oscar ! Wow what a run from our hiking adventures in the Whites to skiing every trail at Loon. Stories of your exploits on the slope. On the ride home, don't tell Carol about an encounter with a Loon Mtn. tree. But in the end Carol always got the story. Oscar couldn't keep it quiet. The incredible bendable man. Will miss you terribly. I have to be thankful for a chance meeting with you in 1964 that lasted all these years. It's been an honor to be your friend. Bless you and The Durand family Bill

You were the most talented person I have ever known; a true genius. But more important than that, you were a wonderful friend and a lovely human being. Oscar, I shall always remember you fondly, but right now, I do so with tears in my eyes and an ache in my heart. God bless you, Carol and your entire family. Tom Harlan
