Patricia Cookson Obituary

Patricia Ruth (Howie) Cookson passed away at her home in Tuftonboro, NH on October 13, 2025. Pat was born on July 31, 1933 in Ware, MA. She is predeceased by her parents John R Howie and Madeline F Howie, and her brothers William and John Howie, and sisters Barbara Tierney and Margaret Cotter.

Pat graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown, CT in 1951. She was Captain of the Cheerleader Team, Freshman Class Vice President, and Member of the Student Government. Pat worked at Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford CT and was chosen to be featured in a 1953 edition of McCall's Magazine about working women.

Pat is survived by her husband of 72 years, Kenneth Cookson. They were married October 31, 1953.

Career moves over the years took them to Salem MA, Hamilton MA, Milford CT, New Hartford NY, and Monroe CT. She is also survived by her four sons, John (Jeannette), Douglas (Tracey), David (Sharon) and Thomas, her sister Katherine Howie, eight grandchildren, Christopher, Rachel, Brian, Sarah DeAngelo, Lansing, Tyler, Dusty, Michael, and eight great grandchildren, Lillian, Henry, Max, Gabrielle, Jimmy, Maryly, Cooper, and Reilly.

Pat was active in each community, including Cub Scout Den Mother, Nursing Home Board of Directors, Parent Teacher Organizations, and Historical Societies. Pat and Ken retired to Tuftonboro NH, where she continued to be active in the community with New Comers, Hikers, and PEO. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. Pat enjoyed hosting gatherings in her home, and was proud of her homemaking skills in cooking, baking, and decorating.

Pat and her family wish to thank the Hospice Team of the Lakes Region VNA for their many months of loving care that allowed us to keep Pat at home where she wanted to be.
