Peter M. Caron

Peter M. Caron of Manchester, N.H., died on Nov. 19, 2021, of natural causes. He was 71 years of age.

Pete was born Sept. 12, 1950, in Manchester, N.H., to Irene Chamberlain and Donald Caron. He attended local schools, including Sacred Heart School, and graduated from Bishop Bradley High School in 1968. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire with double degrees in History and Political Science. He thrived in the academic atmosphere that allowed for the pursuit of knowledge and for eccentricity.

Pete was a lover and authority on classical music with an encyclopedic knowledge of the works of Wagner, Beethoven and Toscanini, among others. Pete shared that love of music for decades with a small circle of local intellectuals and devoted friends called "Boufu Central" from the Greek word for "fool."

A lifelong reader, Pete read thousands of books on national and international history and political science. His antipathy never diminished for those who abuse power by manipulating prejudice, ignorance and nationalism to their advantage.

Pete worked at a variety of jobs, including over a decade at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Survivors include two brothers, Roscoe Caron of Eugene, Ore., and Donald Caron Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; his beloved sister-in-law, Katherine Gorham; two sisters, Donna Caron of Columbus, Ohio, and Zoe Caron Yu of Orlando, Fla.; and two nieces, Devon Caron and Alexandra Yu. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Kathleen.

A special thank-you is extended to the staffs at the Catholic Medical Center Wilson Street Clinic, the Manchester Housing Authority and Villa Crest. An additional sincere thank-you is extended to Ray Bellmore and the kind adult leaders at Boy Scout Troop 135 who helped Pete to find his way in the world. Pete will be missed by all those who loved him and appreciated him.
