I´m sad to learn of Phil´s passing. We both started our teaching careers together. He might have been surprised how many times that I´ve thought of him over the years. Doug McLeod, Berlin, Maryland

Just saw the sad news in the new Pen and Scroll...Peg and I send of thoughts to Barbara and the family...Phil was a great friend and classmate at Lenox and even though we were not in each others lives after school it was nice to hear from him occasionally and see him at the reunion...

He made me want to be an English teacher-and now I am. In the beginning of my career I was told to crack down on my unruly students. Needless to say, I channeled Mr. Nelson and all was well. Best teacher ever!

An icon of THS, a legend of Pfield community, and to many, was a Favorite of THS teachers. I'll always remember the loud chalk,(if chalk can be heard) rapidly scroll writing across the chalk board. He certainly left many great memories, for all of his students. Thank you Mr. Nelson for being one of my favorites.
My condolences to the Nelson family.

Mr. Nelson was my undisputed favorite teacher of all time! Without Phil Nelson the world is a bit less organized with a lot more dangling modifiers and misspellings. I am very sorry for your loss.
