PEMBROKE -- Raymond J. "Moe" Mailhot, 81, died Nov. 27, 2008, in his home on Exchange Street.
A lifelong Suncook resident, he was born Dec. 6, 1926, in Concord and was the son of Henry and Blanche (Desrochers) Mailhot.
In 1944 at the age of 17, he left home to join the U.S. Navy. After training at Sampson Naval Base, N.Y., he participated in the June 1944 D-Day landings at Omaha Beach as a crew member of the USS LST 335.
Mr. Mailhot was a member of both the John J. Maguire American Legion Post No. 28 and the VFW Post No. 2860 of Suncook. In addition, he served as commander of the American Legion in 1962 and of the VFW in 1957-58.
He worked for 35 years for the John Swenson Granite Co. and enjoyed being a member of Lavallee's Back Room.
IN HIS LIFE: He is survived by his wife, Fleur-Ange "Flo" (Breton) Mailhot, whom he had married 60 years ago on Nov. 27. He also leaves a son, Paul, and his wife, Donna (Pelletier) Mailhot; and a daughter, Diane Forcier, and her husband, Roger, all of Pembroke; grandsons, Shane and Derek Mailhot and Keith Forcier; granddaughters, Shanna Gagne and Carrie Smas; great-grandchildren, Alex and Shane Mailhot, Madison, Emma, and Camryn Gagne, Kayla, Amber, and Koral Smas, Olivia Miller, Tristan Forcier, and Thomas Tibbetts; a sister, Madeleine Marcotte of Hooksett; a brother, Roger Mailhot; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Roland and Robert.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Allenstown, followed by burial with military honors at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
