Richard Duane Obituary

BARNSTEAD - Richard D. Duane Jr., 62, of Barnstead passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. He was born in Quincy, MA on May 13, 1961, the son of Richard D. Duane, Sr. and Sandra Linda (Ferreira) Duane.

He graduated from Norwell High School, Norwell, MA as President of his class in 1979 and came to Gilmanton, NH to work with his Uncle, Mike Ferreira before starting the Duane Landscape Business. In addition, he loved spending countless hours working with his parents who owned Appleview Orchard in Pittsfield, NH before becoming the owner of the property. In 2000 he moved to Barnstead, creating and operating Duane Family Farm for over 20 years. He also worked part-time for the Post Office in Pittsfield and had a partnership with the NH Cider Works. For the last 3 years, he was employed by Lowes in Concord, NH, working in the garden center, making strong friendships and sharing his expertise with all.

He was very active in the community as a Selectman and sat on the Planning Board, Zoning Board and Budget Committee. He enjoyed participating in Barnstead's Open Farm Day each year.

Richard had an entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. He was an entrepreneur in the true sense of the word - organizing and operating his businesses, passionate about his work and committed to his customers.

Richard was predeceased by his father Richard D. Duane, Sr.

He leaves his mother, Sandra Linda Duane of Falmouth, MA.; his sister Jennifer Stowe and husband Graham of Campbellsville, TN; his daughters Samantha Duane of LA, CA.; Natalie Scalzo, husband Arthur and grandson Arthur of Montauk, NY; Amelia Duane of Concord, NH; his wife, Karen (LaBrecque) Montgomery of Barnstead; her son, Mark Montgomery (Hannah) of Barnstead; and her daughter, Rosina Montgomery (Anthony) of Pittsfield; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
