Richard Lilly Obituary
Richard Thomas "Dick" Lilly, Jr. was born on January 14th, 1934 to Richard T. and Dorothy (Shuttleworth) Lilly of Shirley, Massachusetts, where he grew up with his sister Mary Jane Del Maestro, late brother Thomas E. Lilly, and sister Clare Kauppi.
Dick was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1955. Dick joined IBM in 1960 where he remained for eight years, aiding in the invention and inception of manufacturing software.
After building a foundation of knowledge at IBM, he made a name for himself as a visionary in the manufacturing software industry, well-known for taking care of his employees. He contributed to the invention of MRP software and helped found multiple successful businesses including LillyWorks Inc., now run by his two living sons.
Known as "Gramps'" by his grandchildren, Dick spent many years on a farm in Lee, NH with his wife Laura and a farm's worth of animals. He loved every one of their vast menagerie, and was particularly fond of their dogs.
Dick was also an avid fisherman, enjoying trips across the country, casting a line everywhere from Grand Lake Stream, ME for smallmouths, the frigid waters of Alaska for silver salmon, Florida Keys for bonefish, tarpon, and permit, and even the little ponds of Milton, NH for his favorite: big largemouth bass.
Dick was predeceased by his parents, wife Laura Carrigan, brother Thomas Lilly, and sons Richard T. Lilly III, and Shawn Andrew Lilly.
Dick is survived by his oldest son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Barbara Lilly of Dover, N.H.; his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Roland Young, of Pembroke, N.H.; his youngest son, Mark Lilly of Plano, Texas; his nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours, Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 5-7 PM at The Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St. Exeter NH 03833. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 AM at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 14 Phoenix St, Shirley, MA 01464. Interment will take place at Shirley Village Cemetery.
