Robert Loring Obituary

Robert (Bob) Loring, of Manchester, NH, and Port Charlotte Village, Florida, died peacefully Sept 16, at home, from cancer. He was 88.

Born on April Fool's Day 1936 to Rupert and Mary (Langley) Loring, Bob loved to set traps for his mother, once rigging a full bedpan to spill on her head. He kept that sense of humor all his life. Bob grew up in the Ossipee Mountains and always loved hunting. He played basketball at Kennett High School and earned a degree in electrical engineering from MIT in 1958.

His fascination for early computers led him to work at the Burroughs Corporation in Pennsylvania. Later, he returned to NH to work at Sanders (now BAE Systems). He remained there, working on a mix of civilian and confidential Department of Defense contracts, until retiring in 1999.

In his 25 years of retirement, Bob enjoyed traveling with friends, reading crime novels, and playing a variety of sports, especially golf. He was thrilled he lived to see his Celtics win another championship.

Bob was predeceased by his sister Patricia Bowen, whom he adored. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan (Walmer), two sons, Allyn of Hudson, NH, and Philip of Oslo, Norway, and one grandchild in New Braunfels, Texas.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Sat, Oct 5 at 10 a.m. at Londonderry United Methodist Church, 258 Mammoth Rd, with a reception to follow. The service will be live-streamed at:

Joan, I was very sad to her of Bob's passing. You have another guardian angel looking over you and your sons! You are in my thoughts.

To Joan, Allyn, and Philip,
I was deeply saddened to hear about Bob's passing. My dad, Bill Martin, was Bob´s favorite cousin (at least that is how he likes to remember it!), and I have fond memories of the stories Dad has shared with me about their adventures growing up as children. Both Bill and Bob were engineers, explorers at heart, always filled with curiosity and a love for the outdoors. Their bond over family, science projects and nature was something I admired growing up.
I have many wonderful memories from the 4th of July holidays, catching up with the Lorings up at camp in New Hampshire. The warmth and laughter and the many stories we all shared will always stay with me. Who could keep a straight face after hearing Bob say - "My sufficiency has been suffonsified and any more would be obnoxious to my sagacious taste."
Please know that my thoughts are with you all during this time. Bob will be missed dearly.
With deepest sympathy,
David, Mary Kay, Isaac and Evan
